Screenings Dust
We deliver every gradeScreenings Dust Screenings
Screenings are the fine crushed rock left over when a quarry makes the bigger stone sizes. The pieces run from about 3/8 inch all the way down to a powder, and they're sharp and angular, so they pack rock-hard when you compact them. You'll hear the same stuff called stone dust, crusher dust, quarry dust, crusher fines, or #10 screenings — it's all the same idea.
The name comes from the screen the quarry uses to sort rock. Anything small enough to fall through the smallest screen ends up in this pile, which is why it's usually one of the cheapest crushed products on the yard. Screenings take on whatever rock the quarry is running, so limestone screenings, granite screenings, and bluestone screenings all show up under the same label. Ask your driver what the local pit stocks, because the color and how it packs will change a bit from one rock type to the next.
What people use it for
How to choose within screenings dust screenings
Under pavers
Screenings compact hard and level flat — ideal for a paver setting bed. Uniform depth (about an inch) matters as much as the material.
Behind a wall
Fines pack tight against a retaining wall's back face. Add a drain line under the fines so water doesn't sit against the wall.
Not for drainage
These pack too tight to drain. Skip them anywhere you need water to move — French drains, downspout runouts, foundation perimeter.
