Screenings in a 1/4” to 1/8” Size Range

Screenings in the 1/4" to 1/8" size range are finely crushed stone byproducts produced during the aggregate screening process. This material consists of small, angular particles that result from breaking down larger stones, typically limestone or granite, into finer fragments.




The small particle size of these screenings makes them ideal for creating a smooth, compactable surface. They are commonly used as a base layer beneath pavers, patios, and walkways, where their fine texture helps lock larger stones in place and prevents shifting. Screenings are also popular for filling joints between paving stones and as a leveling agent for hardscape projects. While their fine size allows for excellent compaction and a stable finish, they may not provide optimal drainage compared to coarser aggregates, making them less suitable for applications where water runoff is a concern.
