Buying guide
Fill dirt, topsoil or garden soil?
To raise or level ground
Use fill dirt for the bulk — it's cheap, compacts tight and won't settle. Cap it with a few inches of topsoil if you're growing grass on top.
For lawns & general planting
Screened topsoil is the all-rounder: nutrient-rich, easy to grade, and ready to seed or sod. Order 3–6 inches over your fill.
For raised beds & gardens
Go with garden soil or compost blend — richer in organic matter for vegetables and flowers. Mix into native soil for the best results.
Soil & sand questions
What's the difference between fill dirt and topsoil?
Fill dirt is subsoil with little organic matter — it compacts and holds grade, ideal for raising and backfill. Topsoil is rich in organic matter for growing. Use fill for the base, topsoil for the top few inches.
How many tons of soil do I need?
One ton of soil covers about 40 sq ft at 6 inches deep. Use the Help-me-choose tool above to convert your bed size to tons.
Which sand do I use for pavers?
Use mason or concrete sand for the bedding layer under pavers, then polymeric sand to lock the joints. Play sand is washed fine sand for sandboxes, not structural work.
Can you deliver soil and sand on the same trip?
Each material is hauled separately so it stays clean and the amounts are exact. Place separate orders and we'll schedule deliveries close together.
