Screenings in a 1/2” Minus Size Range

Screenings in a 1/2" minus size range are finely crushed stone byproducts produced during the screening and crushing of larger aggregates. This material consists of small particles, with the largest pieces measuring up to 1/2 inch and the majority being much finer, almost like coarse sand. The "minus" designation means all particles are 1/2" or smaller, resulting in a dense, easily compacted material.




The fine texture and gradation of 1/2" minus screenings make them ideal for use as a base layer beneath pavers, patios, and walkways, where a smooth, stable surface is essential. They are also commonly used to fill gaps between larger stones, as a leveling agent, or for creating firm paths and driveways. The small particle size allows for excellent compaction, reducing voids and minimizing shifting over time. However, because screenings can retain moisture and become hard-packed, they may not be suitable for drainage applications. Overall, 1/2" minus screenings are valued for their versatility, affordability, and ability to create a solid foundation in both residential and commercial projects.
