Screenings in a #4 Size Range

Screenings in a #4 size range are finely crushed stone particles, typically produced as a byproduct during the crushing and screening of larger aggregates. These particles are smaller than standard gravel, with the #4 size indicating that the material passes through a 4.75 mm (approximately 3/16") sieve, resulting in a fine, sand-like texture.




The fine consistency of #4 screenings makes them ideal for applications where a smooth, compactable base is required. They are commonly used as a setting bed for pavers, flagstone, and bricks, as well as for filling joints between stones. In both residential and commercial projects, screenings provide excellent compaction and stability, reducing the risk of shifting or settling over time. However, because of their small particle size, screenings are not suitable for drainage applications and may retain moisture. Their dust-like quality also means they can be messy to handle but offer a smooth, even finish for hardscape installations.
