Washed Screenings in #4 Size Range

Washed screenings in a #4 size range are finely crushed stone particles that have been thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, clay, and other impurities. The washing process ensures a cleaner, more consistent material, making it ideal for projects where cleanliness and drainage are important. The #4 size refers to particles that pass through a 4.75 mm (approximately 3/16”) sieve, resulting in a fine, sand-like aggregate.

This specific combination of washed and fine sizing makes #4 screenings excellent for use as a paver base, underlayment for patios, walkways, and as a leveling layer beneath flagstone or brick. The washed attribute reduces dust, making it safer and cleaner to handle, while also improving drainage and preventing compaction issues common with unwashed fines. However, because of their fine texture, washed screenings are not ideal for load-bearing applications or areas requiring significant compaction. Overall, they offer a smooth, stable base for hardscape projects and are favored for their ease of installation and clean finish.
