Base Materials
We deliver every gradeRoad Base
Road base is crushed rock mixed with stone dust, sized from about 3/4 inch down to fines. The stones give it structure, and the dust fills the gaps between them. When you compact it, everything locks together into a firm, level surface that holds up under wheels.
Road base goes by a few other names, like crusher run, base course, or a state number like #610 in Ohio. They all mean the same thing: a graded mix built to pack tight under a driveway, parking area, or road. The rock itself can be limestone, granite, or recycled concrete based on what your local quarry runs. It's usually one of the cheaper products by the ton, since it's a workhorse you buy in bulk.
What people use it for
How to choose within road base
Under pavers or concrete
A crushed base — usually 3/4" minus — compacts to a solid, load-bearing pad. Uniform depth matters as much as the material.
Under a shed or hot tub
Compact 4 to 6 inches of base material. More for anything that will sit long-term.
Driveway base
Crushed limestone or road base underneath, topped with a decorative or wear layer.
