Base Materials
We deliver every gradeBase Materials 10 Stone
#10 stone is crushed rock screened to 3/8 inch and smaller, with all the fine dust left in. A lot of yards just call it stone dust or screenings. The pieces are sharp and angular, and the fines fill the gaps between them. When you tamp it down, it locks up almost like a soft concrete instead of shifting around under your feet.
The 10 is a screen size from the ASTM D448 spec. It tells you the pieces run from about 3/8 inch on down to powder, and it says nothing about what kind of rock they came from. You'll see limestone #10, granite #10, and trap rock #10 all sold under the same number. It's usually one of the cheaper things on the price list since it's what falls out at the tail end of a crushing run.

What people use it for
How to choose within base materials 10 stone
Under pavers or concrete
A crushed base — usually 3/4" minus — compacts to a solid, load-bearing pad. Uniform depth matters as much as the material.
Under a shed or hot tub
Compact 4 to 6 inches of base material. More for anything that will sit long-term.
Driveway base
Crushed limestone or road base underneath, topped with a decorative or wear layer.
