Mulch Organics
We deliver every gradeLoam
Loam is dirt made of roughly 40% sand, 40% silt, and 20% clay. That mix drains well but still holds water and nutrients, which is why it's the top pick for lawns, gardens, and raised beds. The sand keeps it from packing tight, the clay gives it body, and the silt fills the gaps in between.
The word "loam" comes from the USDA soil texture triangle, which sorts dirt by the ratio of sand, silt, and clay. You'll see it sold as screened loam, super loam, or lawn loam, and it costs more than plain fill dirt because it's been screened clean of rocks and roots. If a supplier calls their topsoil "loam," ask what's actually in it. The two words get swapped a lot but they're not the same thing.

What people use it for
How to choose within loam
How much depth
2 to 3 inches is the sweet spot. Deeper starves the roots; thinner lets weeds through.
Color hold
Dyed mulches keep their color for a season, sometimes two. Natural mulch fades to grey within a few months.
Fine vs. coarse
Fine mulch breaks down into soil faster. Coarse mulch lasts longer and stays put on a slope.
