We deliver every gradePlanting Soil
Planting soil is dirt built for plants to grow in. It starts with screened topsoil, then gets mixed with compost, aged bark, or other organic stuff so roots find food and air right where they need them. It's darker and looser than plain fill dirt, and it holds water without turning into a brick when it dries. A cubic yard weighs about 2,400 lbs damp, or roughly 1.2 tons.
The name tells you the job. It's soil made for planting into, so you'll see the same product sold as planting mix, garden mix, or planting soil at most yards. Recipes shift by supplier. A blend heavy on compost costs more and feeds plants longer, while one closer to enriched topsoil costs less and works fine for filling beds.

What people use it for
How to choose within planting soil
How much depth
2 to 3 inches is the sweet spot. Deeper starves the roots; thinner lets weeds through.
Color hold
Dyed mulches keep their color for a season, sometimes two. Natural mulch fades to grey within a few months.
Fine vs. coarse
Fine mulch breaks down into soil faster. Coarse mulch lasts longer and stays put on a slope.
