Mulch Organics
We deliver every gradeSoil
Soil is the loose top layer of the ground. It's made of tiny bits of broken rock mixed with rotted plants and living stuff like roots, worms, and microbes. What you buy by the yard is usually screened, so sticks and rocks get pulled out and you get an even texture that spreads and rakes easily. A cubic yard weighs around 2,700 pounds when it's a little damp.
The word "soil" covers a few different products, and the name on the ticket tells you the job. Topsoil is screened dirt for filling low spots and starting a lawn. Garden soil is topsoil blended with compost, so plants get food from day one. Fill dirt is the cheap stuff from below the topsoil layer, with no organics — just body to raise a grade or pack a hole. Prices climb as you add screening and compost.

What people use it for
How to choose within soil
How much depth
2 to 3 inches is the sweet spot. Deeper starves the roots; thinner lets weeds through.
Color hold
Dyed mulches keep their color for a season, sometimes two. Natural mulch fades to grey within a few months.
Fine vs. coarse
Fine mulch breaks down into soil faster. Coarse mulch lasts longer and stays put on a slope.
