Crushed Stone

We deliver every grade

810 Stone

#810 stone is a dense-graded crushed rock that runs from about 3/4 inch pieces all the way down to stone dust. The mix of sizes packs down tight when a roller or a plate compactor runs over it, so it locks in place instead of shifting under weight. It still drains, just not as fast as a clean, washed stone with no fines in it.

The 810 is a size code from Indiana's DOT spec book, section 904. It tells you the range of pieces in the pile and says nothing about what kind of rock they came from, so you'll see it made from limestone, dolomite, or whatever the local quarry runs. It usually costs a bit more than plain crusher run because the sizing is controlled, and less than a clean stone because the fines are still in there.

How to choose within 810 stone

Compaction over drainage

Angular pieces lock together. Pick a smaller size when you need the surface to stay put under a driveway or path.

Drainage over compaction

The larger the piece, the more room for water to move through. #1 or #57 for a French drain; #8 or smaller reads as loose gravel.

Washed vs. unwashed

Washed has the dust rinsed out, so it drains faster and won't track into the house. Unwashed compacts harder — better under a paver base.
