Crushed Stone

We deliver every grade

789 Stone

#789 stone is a crushed rock blend that runs from about 1/2 inch down to fine chips and dust. It combines what you'd get from three separate screens, the #7, #8, and #9, into one well-graded pile. The mix of sizes packs tight, so the pile holds its shape under weight instead of shifting around.

The 789 label comes from Southeast state DOT specs, mainly Georgia's Section 800, and isn't a size listed in the national ASTM D448 sheet. It tells you which screen sizes went into the pile, not what kind of rock came out of the quarry, so you'll see it made from limestone, granite, or gravel. Most people use it under pavers, around drain pipe, or as a top layer on driveways that need to firm up fast.

How to choose within 789 stone

Compaction over drainage

Angular pieces lock together. Pick a smaller size when you need the surface to stay put under a driveway or path.

Drainage over compaction

The larger the piece, the more room for water to move through. #1 or #57 for a French drain; #8 or smaller reads as loose gravel.

Washed vs. unwashed

Washed has the dust rinsed out, so it drains faster and won't track into the house. Unwashed compacts harder — better under a paver base.
