Crushed Stone

We deliver every grade

411 Stone

411 stone is crushed limestone with pieces ranging from about 1 inch down to fine stone dust. The dust and small chips fill the gaps between the bigger rocks, so the whole load packs down tight when you roll it or drive over it. That's why 411 holds its shape under weight instead of shifting around.

The 411 number comes from Ohio DOT's Item 411 spec for a dense-graded base. You'll see the same stuff sold as "crusher run" or "road base" at other yards. It's one of the cheaper crushed stones by the ton because you're paying for a full range of sizes straight off the crusher, dust and all.

How to choose within 411 stone

Compaction over drainage

Angular pieces lock together. Pick a smaller size when you need the surface to stay put under a driveway or path.

Drainage over compaction

The larger the piece, the more room for water to move through. #1 or #57 for a French drain; #8 or smaller reads as loose gravel.

Washed vs. unwashed

Washed has the dust rinsed out, so it drains faster and won't track into the house. Unwashed compacts harder — better under a paver base.
