Local Insights
Wellington is a community of 10,000 residents situated within a growing regional market that supports 2.6+ million people and is expanding at about 2.33% annually. That steady growth translates into more homes, yard renovations, and public and private projects — all of which increase demand for reliable bulk materials like topsoil, sand, gravel, and crushed stone. Wellington's climate, with about 228 sunny days per year and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, encourages outdoor living and active landscaping while creating specific needs: good drainage, erosion control, and mixes that support plants suited to the local zone. Homeowners benefit when materials are chosen to match both aesthetic goals and local performance needs, since the right aggregates and soils reduce maintenance and improve long-term results.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Coverage varies by material density and the depth you spread it. As a simple rule of thumb, 1 ton typically covers roughly 60–160 square feet depending on depth and material type; lighter materials cover more area, heavier materials cover less. For a precise number, calculate volume (area x depth), convert to cubic yards, then convert to tons using the material density provided in your quote.
Measure the length and width of the driveway and choose a target depth (common depths are 2–4 inches for topcoat or 4–8 inches for base). Use area x depth to get cubic feet, divide by 27 to get cubic yards, then multiply by the tons-per-cubic-yard value from your quote. For example, a 20 ft x 10 ft area at 3 inches is 50 cubic feet (~1.85 cubic yards), which is typically about 2–3 tons depending on material.
Local factors like material type, regional geology, availability, and local hauling costs drive price per ton in West Ohio. Seasonal demand, job-site access, and whether you need spreading also affect cost. The fastest way to get a specific price is to enter your zip code (for example 44090) and request a quote.
Coverage depends on the truck size and the depth you need. A typical tri-axle dump truck carries about 8–12 cubic yards, which can cover roughly 250–1,300 square feet depending on whether you spread material 1–4 inches deep. Ask your Hello Gravel quote for the expected cubic yards or tons per truck so you can match truck loads to your project size.
It depends on the truck’s payload rating and the material density. Some full-size pickups can safely carry 1 ton in the bed, while smaller trucks may only handle a fraction of that; always check your truck’s payload capacity in the owner's manual. If you need more than a pickup can carry, our minimum delivery is 3 tons by dump truck.
The least expensive option is usually a locally sourced, mixed aggregate or recycled material, because it requires less processing and lower transport cost. Cheaper materials can be fine for base layers but may compact differently or drain less effectively, so weigh cost against long-term performance. Your sales rep can suggest budget-friendly mixes that work for driveways, pads, or temporary access.
We serve Wellington and many nearby zip codes, but availability depends on supplier and hauler capacity in your area. Enter your zip code at checkout or contact our team to confirm delivery to 44090 and surrounding towns. We’ll provide local pricing, delivery windows, and any site restrictions to consider.
Permit and HOA rules vary by town, township, and association; some neighborhoods require design approvals or specific materials. Hello Gravel does not handle permits, so check with Wellington village offices or your HOA before ordering. If you need documentation (material type, depth, or delivery receipts) we can provide details to help with approvals.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (typically tri-axle) and minimum orders start at 3 tons. Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion if you request it at checkout, but spreading is not guaranteed.
Choose based on the job: think about drainage, load-bearing needs, and final appearance. For stable bases choose coarser, angular mixes; for leveling or planting beds choose finer sand or screened dirt; for surface or decorative use choose well-graded stone or topcoat mixes. Consider local climate (West Ohio freeze-thaw) and talk to our team or use the material calculator to match material properties to your project goals.
