Local Insights
Sullivan is a community of 2,350 residents experiencing steady expansion — a 2.33% annual growth rate that translates into more driveway repairs, yard renovations, and infill building as homeowners update properties and add outdoor living spaces. Being part of a larger regional market (metro area population 2.6+ million) means local contractors and suppliers are active, so demand for bulk materials is practical and ongoing rather than sporadic. With a climate characterized by hardiness zone 8b, 228 sunny days per year, and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, projects need materials that balance drainage performance with sun and weather endurance. For homeowners that means choosing aggregates, soils, mulches, and sands that handle occasional heavy rain, resist washout, and tolerate extended sun exposure while supporting landscaping and construction needs.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Costs vary based on material type, quantity, delivery distance, and site access. Many customers in small Ohio towns see ballpark ranges rather than exact prices: material plus delivery commonly falls within moderate per-ton or per-cubic-yard pricing, with smaller orders bearing higher per-unit costs. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing at checkout and will provide a local quote for your zip code; remember we have a 3-ton minimum for orders.
Choose materials that drain well and resist repeated freeze-thaw movement, and consider a layered approach for driveways (stable base plus a wearing layer). Gravel, sand, dirt, stone in your area will reflect local geology, so pick denser, angular aggregates for load-bearing areas and finer, more compactable materials for grading and topsoil work. If you are unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our team to match material performance to Sullivan's seasonal cycles.
Many local suppliers and contracted haulers serve rural addresses in Sullivan and nearby West Ohio communities, but delivery depends on road access, weight limits, and turnaround space for dump trucks. Provide clear site directions and gate codes at checkout and note any tight driveways or low-hanging wires so the dispatcher can confirm feasibility. If access is limited, our team can suggest delivery alternatives or staging spots.
Hello Gravel's platform has a 3-ton minimum, which is common for bulk aggregate deliveries. Delivery fees depend on distance, truck type, and site conditions; many areas offer free delivery for orders meeting local thresholds, while smaller orders or difficult access may incur an additional fee. You will see fees up front during checkout and can request a quote if you have special delivery requirements.
The most reliable months for delivery and installation in Sullivan are late spring through early fall when ground conditions are firmer and there is less risk of snow or freeze-thaw delays. Early spring and winter deliveries are possible but may be limited by muddy or frozen ground and local road restrictions. Schedule ahead, choose our 2+ business day standard window or next-day option (if eligible), and allow flexibility for weather-related changes.
A typical one-car driveway (about 12 ft by 20 ft) at 4-inch depth uses roughly 3 cubic yards, which is about 4 to 5 tons depending on material density. A two-car driveway (about 20 ft by 20 ft) at the same depth usually needs about 6 to 8 cubic yards, roughly 8 to 12 tons. Use our material calculator or contact our team to get precise estimates based on your exact dimensions and the material you choose.
Permit and regulation requirements vary by township and county around Sullivan, so check with your local building or zoning office before beginning a project. Some areas require permits for new driveway connections, curb cuts, or significant grading; delivery itself may require notification if it impacts public roads. If you need help, our team can point you to common local contacts, but customers are ultimately responsible for obtaining required permits.
Standard delivery is generally available in 2+ business days, and next-day delivery can be offered for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Actual fulfillment depends on supplier inventory, truck availability, and weather or local access conditions. We confirm delivery windows and provide tracking details so you know when the truck is scheduled to arrive.
Improving drainage usually involves regrading low spots, adding a permeable base, and using appropriate aggregates to encourage runoff away from structures. Combining coarser materials for sub-base and finer, well-compacting materials for top layer can reduce mud and standing water; adding a shallow slope of 2% away from buildings helps too. If you describe your problem at checkout or to our sales team, we can recommend a material approach that fits Sullivan's soils and your site conditions.
Policies vary by supplier, but Hello Gravel will work with local partners to address issues promptly; contact customer service if material looks significantly different or there is a delivery problem. Returns and pickups depend on the supplier and the type of material; many suppliers do not accept used or spread material back, so review product notes and ask questions before ordering. See our customer service team for next steps and to learn how we handle disputes and adjustments.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request order changes; modifications are easier before the order is dispatched and depend on supplier and truck schedules. Tailgate spreading can be requested at checkout, but it is performed at the driver's discretion and cannot be guaranteed for safety or access reasons. We recommend noting access details and spreading requests in the order notes so the dispatcher can plan accordingly.
