Local Insights
Chesapeake has a population of 6,150 and sits within a growing regional market—the West Ohio metro area counts 2.6+ million people and is expanding at 2.33% annually. That steady growth drives demand for home improvement, new landscaping, and smaller-scale construction projects, increasing the need for reliable bulk materials. Chesapeake's climate and geography—hardiness zone 8b with 228 sunny days per year and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall—creates specific material priorities: products that offer good drainage during rain events, UV and heat resistance from long sunny periods, and soil amendments that support plantings in local conditions. For homeowners this means selecting aggregates and soils that provide stable bases, erosion control, and moisture management. Quality, locally sourced bulk materials reduce the chance of rework, match local geology, and help projects last longer under Chesapeake's conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose based on use, drainage, and appearance: a heavily driven driveway needs a more durable, compactable material while a decorative patio prioritizes color and texture. Consider how much traffic the area gets, whether water needs to drain through or away, and how often you want to maintain the surface. Use our material calculator and aggregate quiz to compare options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone as a group, and contact our team for tailored advice.
Think about drainage, slope, and plant needs when selecting materials. For erosion control and grading, choose materials that will lock together and resist washout; for garden beds you may prioritize appearance and root growth. In Chesapeake's local conditions, combining base and top layers often gives the best long-term results, and our team can recommend a mix that suits your project.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area to calculate cubic feet, then convert to cubic yards or tons using our online calculator. Different materials have different weights per cubic yard, so the calculator or our team can give a tonnage estimate for your specific material. If you prefer, send dimensions or photos and we will help estimate quantities.
No—natural materials vary by local geology, so texture and color may differ from photos. We source regionally, which means materials reflect Chesapeake's local stone and soil characteristics. You can add color or texture preferences in Order Notes, and our team will try to match them where possible, but exact matches cannot be guaranteed.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order confirmation, and you can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout. Next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, but availability depends on local suppliers and truck schedules. We will confirm timing after your order is processed, but exact arrival windows are not guaranteed.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; request this service at checkout and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely on arrival. There is no guarantee of spreading, so mark the drop zone clearly, remove obstacles, and provide good access for the truck to minimize issues. For precise placement or spreading, consider arranging additional local labor ahead of delivery.
Chesapeake's seasonal weather can affect delivery and material performance—heavy rains can cause muddy sites and make spreading difficult, while freeze-thaw cycles can shift loose material. Plan deliveries for drier periods when possible, allow time for settling or compaction, and protect stockpiles from erosion. If your project is time-sensitive, discuss scheduling and storage options with our team.
Pricing depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, and site access rather than a single fixed rate. We show clear pricing during checkout and can provide quotes for large or commercial orders; free delivery may apply in many areas. For an exact cost, enter your zip code and project details on our site or contact our sales team for a quote.
Check availability by entering your Chesapeake zip code on our website; we serve many local zip codes in and around the city. If your zip code isn't available online, contact our team and we will confirm whether local suppliers and haulers can reach your address. Availability can vary by material and season due to local sourcing.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; modifications are easiest to accommodate before the order is dispatched. Once a load is on its way, changes may be limited due to supplier and trucking schedules. We will do our best to help, but not all changes can be guaranteed.
Our minimum order is 3 tons and deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets, typically tri-axle trucks. We manage the coordination with the supplier and hauler, but trucks are not branded Hello Gravel vehicles. Tell us about site access and obstacles at checkout so we can match the right truck and avoid delivery problems.
Contact our customer service promptly with photos and a description of the issue so we can work with the supplier and hauler to resolve it. We will review the situation and explain next steps; see our refund policy for details on possible remedies. Acting quickly gives the best chance of a satisfactory resolution.
