Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Crown City commonly order bulk materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for tasks like driveways, garden beds, grading, and drainage projects. These materials are versatile and can be used alone or layered for base, finish, or drainage purposes. Local suppliers may offer regional variations in color and texture.
Choose based on function: stability for driveways, drainage for low spots, and appearance for landscape beds. Consider factors like expected traffic, slope, and whether you need a stable base or decorative top layer. Use our material calculator or contact our team for guidance tailored to your project size and conditions.
Crown City experiences seasonal changes that affect installation and material performance: spring rains can slow grading and settling, while winter freeze-thaw cycles can shift base layers. Schedule major installations during drier months and allow extra time for compaction and settling in spring and fall. Choose materials that handle local moisture and freezing conditions for long-term stability.
Common projects include driveway installation or resurfacing, raised beds, site grading, drainage swales, and patio bases. Quantity depends on area and depth; small yard projects may need a few tons while driveways often require multiple loads. Use the online calculator or provide length, width, and depth to estimate tons, and allow for 5-10% extra for settling and compaction.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, while next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. During peak landscaping seasons, lead times can extend as suppliers and haulers book up, so plan and order early. We show available dates at checkout and will confirm timing after order placement.
Minimum orders generally start around 3 tons, and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets, often tri-axle trucks. Delivery fees vary by location and supplier; many areas offer free delivery but fees depend on distance and access. Enter your zip code at checkout to see pricing, minimums, and available delivery windows.
Drivers may be able to perform limited tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this service is not guaranteed and depends on safety and site access. For full spreading, grading, or installation services, coordinate with a local contractor or ask suppliers directly about bundled installation options. Request spreading in Order Notes at checkout and the driver will assess feasibility on arrival.
Permit requirements vary depending on the scope of work, property location, and any local or county regulations. Small deliveries and routine driveway resurfacing often do not need permits, but larger grading, drainage changes, or curb cuts may. Check with Crown City municipal offices or Scioto County building department and your HOA if applicable before starting major work.
Compare based on lifecycle needs: initial cost, maintenance frequency, and drainage performance. Materials that compact well make durable driveways; coarser mixes tend to drain better. Balance budget and long-term maintenance: a slightly higher upfront cost for a more durable, well-draining aggregate can save money over time in West Ohio's wet and freeze-prone seasons.
Materials reflect local geology, so texture, color, and particle shape can vary from supplier to supplier in the West Ohio region. These variations affect appearance and performance, particularly for decorative uses or tight tolerances. If color or texture matters, add notes at checkout and ask your sales rep about local samples or photos.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order; changes are easiest before the order is processed or dispatched. We will make a best effort to accommodate requests, but ability to change depends on timing and supplier processing. See our order and refund pages for details or call customer service for help.
We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay through a secure online checkout, and you can choose your delivery date during ordering.
