Masonry Aggregate
Masonry sand is the fine, clean sand you mix into mortar for laying brick, block, and stone. The grains are small and evenly sized, so the mortar spreads smooth and packs tight between the units. It's washed to strip out silt and clay, which would weaken the bond.
The "masonry" label points to ASTM C144, the spec that sets how coarse or fine the sand can be for mortar work. Some yards call it mason sand or brick sand. It's the same stuff. You'll pay a bit more than for plain fill sand because it's screened finer and washed cleaner.

How to choose within masonry aggregate
Ask before you order
These aren't catalog items. Confirm size, color, and delivery window with the yard before you commit — every load runs differently.
Match the job to the stone
Flagstone, boulders, ballast, glass gravel — each has one right job. Get the job clear first, then the stone follows.
Lead time is longer
A specialty order usually ships slower than a #57 pallet. Plan the delivery date around the material, not the other way around.
