Local Insights
With a city population of 2,510, Sullivan is a small but steadily growing community inside a broader metro area of 2.5+ million. A growth rate of 1.20% annually suggests steady residential demand rather than a sudden building boom, which translates into more homeowners pursuing incremental projects: driveway repairs, yard regrades, garden refreshes, and small accessory structures. Sullivan's climate—about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b—supports a long outdoor working season but requires materials that perform through both sun exposure and periodic wet conditions. That combination increases the value of reliable bulk supplies across categories—base materials for stable footing, permeable aggregates for drainage, soils and compost for planting, and mulches for moisture control—while regional sourcing helps ensure materials match local geology and performance needs.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching material performance to the job: think load-bearing needs, drainage, appearance, and maintenance. Consider local climate and freeze-thaw cycles when selecting from common options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone; regional sourcing means texture and color vary. Use Hello Gravel’s material quiz or contact our sales team for recommendations based on your specific project and site conditions.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area, convert inches to feet, then to cubic yards and finally to tons. You can use Hello Gravel’s online calculator to simplify this and remember our minimum order is 3 tons. If you’re unsure, send photos and dimensions to our team for help with an estimate.
Avoid scheduling major deliveries during freeze-thaw periods, heavy snow, or after prolonged rain because wet or frozen ground can affect placement and compaction. Late spring through early fall is typically easiest for spreading and finishing work in Wisconsin, but timeline depends on your project and weather. Plan ahead and allow extra time for seasonal demand and possible weather delays.
Standard delivery is typically available in 2+ business days, and next-day delivery can be offered for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Exact timing is confirmed at checkout and may be affected by supplier availability or weather. We provide upfront pricing and let you choose a preferred delivery date in the checkout calendar.
Trucks need room to turn and park; overhead wires, low tree branches, narrow gates, steep or soft driveways, and tight corners can prevent safe dump placement. Marking a clear drop zone in Order Notes and providing detailed directions helps haulers plan. If access looks limited, contact our team so we can coordinate with the driver or suggest an alternate drop point.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this depends on safety, access, equipment, and local restrictions. Request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess the site upon arrival. Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading services, so plan to hire a local contractor if you need precise grading.
Price depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, access difficulty, and requested delivery speed. Hello Gravel lists transparent pricing during checkout and often includes free delivery in many areas; the minimum order is 3 tons. Any additional services, such as rush delivery or tailgate spreading requests, may add fees.
Clear the intended drop area of debris, mark property lines and utilities, and make sure gates are unlocked and driveways are accessible. Put down plywood or planks if the ground is soft to help protect lawns and prevent ruts. Communicate a single point of contact and include any special instructions in Order Notes to help the driver place the load where you want it.
Permit requirements vary by town, county, and whether the work connects to a public road or affects drainage, so check Sullivan and Kenosha County rules before you start. Projects that change drainage patterns, affect wetlands, or involve significant earthmoving commonly need permits. If you’re unsure, call the local municipal office or our sales team for general guidance before ordering materials.
Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, so natural color, stone type, and texture reflect local geology and can vary from photos. Lighting, moisture, and screen settings also change how a product appears. If color is important, note preferences in your order and we’ll try to match your request when possible, but exact matches are not guaranteed.
Select materials based on permeability and particle size that suit the slope and flow you expect; coarser, well-graded mixes often drain better, while finer materials can clog. Consider combining material selection with geotextile fabric or proper grading to improve performance. Contact our team with site details so we can recommend suitable material options and amounts.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We’ll do our best to accommodate modifications, but once a supplier or truck is scheduled changes may be limited and fees could apply. Check your order confirmation for contact details and timelines for making changes.
Hello Gravel works with local suppliers and haulers, so materials typically come from regional sources serving Sullivan and nearby zip codes. Delivery radius varies by supplier and material availability; check your zip code on the site to see available products and estimated delivery windows. If your site is farther out or has limited access, our team can help find the best option or suggest a nearby drop point.
