Local Insights
Dewar is a small, steady community with a city population of 984, sitting inside a broader metro that supports 2.3+ million people. With a measured growth rate of 0.40% annually, local construction and landscaping demand tends to expand gradually rather than in sudden bursts — that means homeowners and contractors can plan projects with predictable timelines and budget expectations. The climate, with 228 sunny days per year and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, drives specific needs: sun-resistant surface finishes, drainage-capable base materials, and mixes that tolerate cycles of wetting and drying. For everyday projects — driveways, patios, grading, raised beds, and erosion control — reliable bulk supplies like gravel, sand, topsoil, and mulch matter because they perform differently under prolonged sun and intermittent rain. Regional sourcing also means textures and colors reflect local geology, so choosing the right material mix affects longevity, maintenance, and appearance in Dewar's environment.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners and contractors in Dewar typically order a range of aggregates for outdoor projects, including gravel, sand, dirt, stone. These materials are used for driveways, base layers, grading, drainage improvements, and decorative beds. Your local supplier can recommend the best type and size mix based on the project and regional availability.
Start by defining the project: load-bearing surfaces (driveways) need stable base material, while decorative beds and play areas prioritize appearance and drainage. Consider factors such as expected traffic, slope, drainage needs, and local climate; your supplier can suggest blends or gradations of gravel, sand, dirt, stone that match those needs. Use the material calculator or contact our team for guidance if you're unsure.
Dewar's hot summers and occasional freezes mean you should prioritize drainage and materials that resist shifting and erosion. Proper base preparation and well-graded materials reduce frost heave and washout in storms, while lighter-colored options can help reduce heat absorption in exposed areas. Discuss seasonal weather patterns with your supplier to pick materials and installation timing that perform best locally.
The most reliable window for installing driveways and major landscaping in Dewar is late spring through early fall when ground is dry and temperatures are moderate. Avoid working on frozen or waterlogged ground, which can prevent proper compaction and bonding. If you must work in shoulder seasons, plan for additional site preparation and allow more curing/settling time.
Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of about 3 tons and commonly delivers by tri-axle dump truck. Standard delivery is 2+ business days; next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Delivery fees and availability vary by ZIP code, so check your zip code or request a quote for exact pricing and lead times.
Some local suppliers and haulers may offer same-day or smaller-load deliveries, but availability depends on supplier schedules and truck capacity. Smaller loads or expedited delivery often carry extra fees; contact our team to check options for your address and preferred date. If access is tight, mention driveway width, low branches, and overhead wires so the hauler can plan appropriately.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on safety, site access, and load type. Request tailgate spreading at checkout and note any site constraints in the order notes; the driver will assess whether it can be done safely on arrival. For precise spreading or grading, plan to hire a local contractor or arrange separate equipment.
Regulations and HOA rules vary by area, so check Dewar city requirements and any neighborhood covenants before ordering materials. Common restrictions include driveway width, setback requirements, and acceptable surface materials or colors. When in doubt, contact local planning or your HOA and keep receipts and material specs in case documentation is needed for permits.
