Local Insights
Minerva, Ohio (population 8,670) is part of a growing regional market that feeds steady construction and landscaping demand. A 2.33% annual growth rate means more remodeling, new yards, and small-scale development — not a sudden boom, but consistent year-over-year work that keeps driveways, grading, and garden projects in regular rotation. With about 228 sunny days each year, 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners need materials that balance drainage, moisture retention, and heat tolerance. That translates to reliable supply of base materials, well-graded soils, drainage aggregates, mulch, and erosion-control products. For Minerva projects, quality bulk materials matter because they reduce rework, help manage stormwater, and support plant establishment in a climate that alternates bright, dry stretches with moderate rains. Local climate and soil behavior shape which materials perform best: repeated sun and intermittent rain create drying and runoff cycles that affect compaction, stability, and erosion. Homeowners should prioritize material gradation, permeability, and organic content to match site drainage and planting plans. Hello Gravel helps by connecting Minerva residents to local suppliers familiar with regional geology, offering quantity calculators and delivery scheduling so you can choose materials that suit local conditions and avoid costly mismatches.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Coverage depends on the material density and how deep you need it. As a rule of thumb, 1 ton of common aggregates will cover about 80–100 square feet at a 1-inch depth, or roughly 25–30 square feet at 3 inches. Use our online material calculator for a precise estimate based on your chosen depth and local material type.
Calculate length x width x depth to get cubic feet, divide by 27 for cubic yards, then convert to tons (1 cubic yard typically weighs about 1.2–1.7 tons depending on material). For example, a 20 ft by 10 ft driveway at 3 inches deep equals about 1.85 cubic yards (roughly 2.2–3.1 tons); at 6 inches deep it's about 3.7 cubic yards (4.4–6.3 tons). If you need help, use our calculator or contact our team for a quick estimate for Minerva.
Truck capacity varies by vehicle, but local dump trucks used by our suppliers commonly carry roughly 10–16 cubic yards (about 10–14 tons), and coverage depends on depth. As an example, a 10-yard load can cover roughly 1,200–1,500 square feet at a 1-inch depth or about 300–400 square feet at a 3-inch depth. Contact us with your project dimensions and we will match you to a supplier and provide a coverage estimate.
Whether 1 ton will fit depends on your truck's payload rating and the material density. Many full-size pickups have payloads near 1,500–2,000 pounds and may be close to a safe limit when carrying a ton, while smaller trucks usually cannot; bed volume can also be the limiting factor. Hello Gravel's minimum order is 3 tons and we deliver by dump truck, so check your vehicle limits if you plan a self-pickup alternative.
Prices vary by material type, availability, and delivery distance in the West Ohio region. Hello Gravel shows transparent, local pricing on our site and you can get an instant quote for your zip code; ballpark ranges for common aggregates change seasonally, so use the quote tool or call our team for current local rates. We also show delivery fees (many areas offer free delivery) and any next-day service charges.
Choose based on function: drainage and stability for driveways and bases, fine texture for garden beds, and appearance for visible surfaces. Since regional material characteristics vary, consider drainage needs, compaction, and desired look, then use our aggregate quiz or talk to our sales team for a recommendation that suits West Ohio conditions. We can suggest options among gravel, sand, dirt, and stone and give practical tips for installation and depth.
We handle a wide range of projects from homeowner landscaping and garden beds to driveway resurfacing, patio and paver base, erosion control, backfill, and small construction jobs. Both DIYers and contractors can order bulk quantities online and schedule delivery for the amount and date that works for their project. If you have an unusual application, contact our team and we will connect you with a local supplier who can advise on the right material.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order with no extra fee; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks), our minimum order is 3 tons, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion—request it at checkout but note it is not guaranteed. We show available delivery dates during checkout and you can contact our team to discuss timing or access limitations at your site.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will make a best effort to help, but modifications are not guaranteed once suppliers and trucks are scheduled. For specific details about refunds and cancellations, see our policy or reach out to customer service.
Natural aggregates vary by local geology, so texture and color can differ from stock photos; this is expected with regional sourcing. If you have concerns about the material you received, contact customer service promptly with photos and delivery details and we will work with the supplier to resolve the issue. Refer to our refund policy for how claims are handled and keep in mind that small variations do not necessarily indicate a defect.
