Local Insights
Mendon (population 1,250) sits within a growing West Ohio region whose metro area population is 2.6+ million and is expanding at a steady 2.33% annually. That steady growth means more renovation, new home landscaping, driveways, and small infrastructure projects by both homeowners and local contractors. With 228/year sunny days and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, material choices must balance drainage and moisture retention: stable base materials for driveways and patios, loose mixes that promote infiltration where runoff is a concern, and organic products that support longer growing seasons. Homeowners in Mendon are looking for durable, locally sourced aggregates and soils that reduce maintenance, support plantings through warm seasons, and stand up to periodic heavy rain events. Quality bulk materials — from base rock and sand to topsoil and mulch — directly affect project longevity, drainage performance, and landscape health in this regional climate.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Prices depend on the material and local supply. In West Ohio, common aggregates often range from about $30 to $70 per ton, but finer sands or specialty decorative stone can be higher. Use our online calculator or request a quote for an exact per-ton price for your zip code.
Pricing varies by region, material type, and quarry availability. Materials sourced locally in Mendon and surrounding West Ohio communities may be less expensive than specialty imports, so check local quotes and factor in delivery when comparing costs.
Most of our deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks, which commonly carry about 10 to 16 tons depending on material density and truck configuration. Larger end-dump trucks can carry more, but actual tonnage for your order will be listed in your order confirmation.
To estimate, measure width and desired depth, convert to cubic yards, then convert to tons. For example, a 100 ft by 12 ft driveway at 3 inches depth is about 11.1 cubic yards, which is roughly 13 to 19 tons depending on material. Multiply those tons by your local per-ton price to estimate cost and get a more accurate quote from us.
Cheaper options usually include locally available screenings or recycled aggregate and basic road base mixes. Keep in mind the lowest-cost material may require more maintenance or compaction; consider long-term performance and drainage needs when choosing a budget option.
Choose based on traffic, drainage, desired appearance, and local climate. For driving surfaces pick a stable base and a wearing layer designed to compact; for pathways or decorative areas prioritize texture and color. Our quiz and sales team can help match gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mixes to your project and site conditions.
Measure the length, width, and depth of the area to get cubic feet, convert to cubic yards (divide by 27), then multiply by a material-specific density to get tons. If you prefer, use our online material calculator or call our team with your measurements for a quick estimate. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons.
Standard delivery is two or more business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. You choose your delivery date at checkout and we'll confirm timing once the hauler is assigned. Transit times can vary with weather and supplier availability.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and if it can be done safely; you can request it at checkout. This is not guaranteed, so plan for some manual rake or machine spreading if precise placement is required.
Clear the drop area of vehicles, toys, and loose items; mark any preferred drop zone and note overhead wires, gates, or steep slopes. Ensure the truck has a safe approach and turnaround area and that someone is on site to direct placement if possible. If access is tight, tell us at checkout so we can coordinate the right truck and driver instructions.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order. We will try to accommodate requests before the order is dispatched, but changes may be limited once the hauler is assigned or materials are loaded. See our order policies or call for guidance.
Due to regional sourcing, color and texture will vary from photos and between deliveries. If you have concerns about delivered material or service, contact customer support promptly and we will work with the supplier and hauler to resolve the issue per our policy.
Our minimum order is 3 tons. We accept major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay through a secure checkout. You can add delivery instructions and notes at checkout, and our team is available to help with material selection or to provide a quote for larger contractor jobs.
