Local Insights
Kirby has a city population of 132 but sits inside a growing regional market that serves a metro area population of 2.6+ million. A growth rate of 2.33% annually suggests steady demand for new construction, renovations, and outdoor projects—even if most jobs are small-scale or owner-driven. Kirby’s climate—228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 33.00 inches in hardiness zone 8b—favors year-round exterior work but also creates specific material needs: reliable drainage layers to handle moderate rains, UV- and weather-resistant surface materials for long sun exposure, and soils or topdressings that support plantings for the local zone. Homeowners increasingly prioritize low-maintenance yards, durable driveways, and multi-season outdoor living spaces, so quality bulk materials (gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone) matter for longevity, appearance, and performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials that match the driveway use and drainage you need. In our region, mixes from the gravel, sand, dirt, stone group that compact well and allow some drainage tend to perform best for driveways, while finer materials are better for leveling under pavers. Consider depth, compaction, and a stable base when selecting material.
Cost depends on the material type, quantity, and distance from the local supplier. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing online and offers a minimum order of 3 tons; delivery is free in many areas but fees can apply for next-day service or long hauls. Enter your zip code and request a quote to see exact pricing for your project.
Materials that shed water and resist frost heave generally hold up better in freeze-thaw conditions. Within the gravel, sand, dirt, stone group, coarser, well-draining mixes and properly compacted bases reduce shifting and settling. Proper installation and occasional maintenance after winter are also important for long-term performance.
Spring through fall is usually the easiest time for most landscaping and driveway projects, since the ground is not frozen and crews have better access. That said, deliveries can often be scheduled year-round; just know frozen or muddy site conditions can affect placement and spreading. Choose a delivery date at checkout and allow at least 2 business days for standard delivery or request next-day service if needed.
Yes, many local suppliers and haulers serve rural addresses in the Kirby area, but access and site conditions can affect delivery. Our trucks are typically tri-axle dump trucks, so narrow lanes, low-hanging wires, and soft shoulders may limit where a truck can safely place material. Enter your zip code online and add delivery notes or photos to help us and the driver plan access.
A common rule of thumb: a two-car driveway around 12 ft by 40 ft at about 3 inches of material typically requires roughly 4 to 6 tons, depending on material density and compaction. Exact needs vary by the material type and desired depth, so use our material calculator or request a quote with your project dimensions for a precise estimate. Keep in mind our minimum order is 3 tons.
Maintenance varies by material and use: denser aggregates need less frequent topping and regrading, while loose or finer materials may migrate, compact unevenly, or need more frequent topping. Expect to regrade or add material after heavy winter cycles and follow simple seasonal checks for drainage and compaction. Choosing the right material for the location and purpose reduces long-term upkeep.
Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, while standard delivery requires 2 or more business days. Same-day delivery is sometimes possible in local pockets but is not guaranteed and depends on supplier and truck availability. Select your preferred date at checkout and contact our team if you need faster service.
Base your choice on drainage needs, load, and finish appearance rather than a single material type. Coarser mixes within the gravel, sand, dirt, stone group provide better drainage and stability for paths, driveways, and drainage swales, while finer materials are more suitable for leveling, bedding, or planting areas. If in doubt, use our aggregate quiz or contact our sales team for guidance on the right mix for your project.
Start by measuring the area and desired depth, then use our material calculator to convert to tons. Enter your zip code to get local pricing and see delivery options—remember the 3-ton minimum and standard 2+ business day lead time. For a firm price, request a quote through the site or call our team with project details.
Expect delivery by a contracted dump truck, typically a tri-axle, and make sure access is clear of vehicles, low wires, and obstructions. You can add placement instructions and photos at checkout; drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but it is not guaranteed. If you need help planning access or staging, contact our team before delivery so we can coordinate with the hauler.
