Local Insights
With a city population of 5,340 and a metro area population of 2.6+ million, Carey is part of a growing region where steady expansion (2.33% annually) is translating into consistent demand for new housing, driveways, patios, and municipal work. That steady growth means more contractors and homeowners are planning landscaping and small construction projects, so reliable access to bulk materials is essential. Carey's climate — 228 sunny days per year, 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, and hardiness zone 8b — combines moderate precipitation with plenty of sun, creating a need for materials that balance drainage, erosion control, and heat tolerance. Homeowners here will look for quality mixes of gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and stone that hold up to seasonal storms, support drought-tolerant plantings, and minimize maintenance over time. Choosing regionally sourced, consistent bulk supplies helps projects finish faster and perform better in local conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Coverage depends on the material's density and the depth you need. As a general rule, one ton typically covers about 80-100 sq ft at a 1-inch depth, about 40-50 sq ft at 2 inches, and about 20-35 sq ft at 3-4 inches. Use our material calculator for a more accurate estimate based on gravel, sand, dirt, stone and your desired depth.
Per-ton prices vary by material type, quality, local supply and delivery distance from nearby suppliers. For an accurate cost, enter your zip code on our site to see current per-ton pricing and any delivery fees; you can also get a custom quote from our sales team. Remember to include the minimum order requirement and any optional services when totaling your cost.
Estimate the area by multiplying length by width, choose a recommended depth (typically 3-4 inches for a top layer), then convert that volume to tons using our calculator. Multiply the required tons by the per-ton price and add delivery and any optional services. Local factors in Carey, like soil conditions and seasonal access, can affect depth and cost, so contact our team for help refining estimates.
Truck capacity and coverage vary: a typical tri-axle dump truck carries roughly 10-14 tons, but loads differ by supplier. That amount can cover a few hundred to several hundred square feet depending on material and depth; for example, one full truck might cover several hundred square feet at a 2-3 inch depth. Check the specific truck size when you order or ask our team to recommend the right truck for your project.
Most Hello Gravel deliveries are made by dump truck; our minimum order is 3 tons, which usually exceeds a residential pickup's safe payload. If you prefer to pick up material, check your vehicle's payload rating first and never exceed the manufacturer's limits. For typical homeowner needs, professional dump delivery is the safest and easiest option.
The cheapest option depends on local availability and intended use; recycled or crushed local materials often cost less. Keep in mind that lower-cost material may require more frequent maintenance, so consider long-term upkeep, drainage needs and traffic load before choosing. Use our material quiz or contact our sales team to balance price, performance and appearance.
Match material to the project's needs: consider traffic load, drainage, desired look, and the depth required for stability. Regional sourcing means gravel, sand, dirt, stone will vary in texture and color in Carey, so view samples or photos and ask about local recommendations. Our team can help you select a material that balances cost, durability and appearance for your specific project.
Standard delivery typically takes 2+ business days; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but cannot guarantee spreading services. Provide clear delivery notes about access, desired drop location and any permits or HOA rules when you order.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; modifications are easiest before a load is dispatched and are not always guaranteed. If there is an issue with the delivered material or service, reach out to customer service promptly and we will work to resolve it; see our refund and dispute process for details. Keeping photos and order notes handy speeds resolution.
