Local Insights
Duncan Falls is a small, community-minded place with a city population of 1,140. A steady growth rate of 2.33% annually suggests ongoing demand for home improvements, infill construction, and upgrades to yards and driveways as homeowners invest in property value and outdoor living. Being part of a larger regional market (metro area population: 2.6+ million) also means materials and contractors are accessible but local projects still favor solutions that match nearby conditions. With 228 sunny days/year, 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, residents need bulk materials that balance UV and moisture exposure, shed water effectively, and hold up through seasonal cycles. For homeowners and contractors alike, reliable supplies of gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone support everything from drainage and foundations to landscaping and erosion control.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with your project's purpose: drainage, stability, aesthetics, or fill. For most jobs you can compare materials by size, compaction, and how they handle water; gravel, sand, dirt, and stone each perform differently but can be matched to needs. Consider local freeze-thaw cycles in West Ohio and pick materials that resist frost heave or drain well. If unsure, use Hello Gravel's material quiz or contact our team for guidance.
Freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal precipitation in West Ohio can cause settling and frost heave, so choose materials that drain well and compact reliably. Materials that shed water and allow frost to move through without lifting are typically better for driveways and base layers. Expect regional variability in color and texture due to local sourcing, and plan for occasional maintenance after winter.
Typical projects include driveways, paths, patios, raised beds, grading, and erosion control. Each project needs base, finish, or fill materials; plan for base layers that compact well and top layers for appearance or drainage. Estimate quantities early and allow extra for compaction and grading adjustments.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide the depth in inches for your material, then convert to cubic yards and to tons if needed. Hello Gravel offers a material calculator and aggregate quiz to simplify this process, and our sales team can help with takeoff guidance for small residential jobs. Always order a little extra (5-10%) to account for compaction and grading.
Hello Gravel generally requires a 3-ton minimum and offers standard delivery in 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets; availability and fees can vary by supplier and zip code. You can choose a preferred delivery date during checkout and should confirm access and drop location beforehand.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on site access and safety. You can request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely upon arrival. For precise spreading or finished grading, plan to hire a local contractor.
Spring and fall are popular times for landscaping and driveway work, so schedule deliveries early to secure preferred dates. Avoid scheduling heavy deliveries during freeze-thaw periods or when the ground is saturated to reduce rutting and compaction issues. If you need quick turnaround, next-day delivery is an option when ordered before noon CST.
Cost depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, and any additional services like spreading. Regional sourcing means prices can vary; Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing in checkout so you can compare options. For budgeting, include extra for delivery fees, possible contractor labor, and a 5-10% waste or compaction allowance.
Yes, Hello Gravel provides an online material calculator and an aggregate quiz to help estimate needs and match materials to projects. Our sales team is also available to review measurements and offer guidance for typical residential scopes. For detailed contractor takeoffs, many local suppliers or contractors provide formal takeoff services separately.
Ask how the material compacts, how it handles water, and what routine maintenance is needed (topping up, regrading, weed control). Discuss expected lifespan under local weather and traffic conditions in West Ohio and whether the material needs edging or stabilization for your project. Comparing these factors helps match materials to heavy-use areas versus decorative finishes.
Check with Muskingum County and local township offices for driveway permits, setbacks, or stormwater requirements that may apply to larger projects. Also verify any HOA rules or local ordinances for visible front-yard materials or curb cuts. For delivery, confirm access, overhead clearance, and any weight limits on private roads or driveways to avoid issues on arrival.
Due to regional sourcing, color and texture may vary from photos; this is normal for natural aggregates like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone. Contact Hello Gravel customer service as soon as possible to discuss changes or concerns; we will work to resolve issues and can explain refund or return options per our policy. For order changes, it's easiest to modify before dispatch, so reach out promptly.
