Local Insights
Makoti has a population of 220 and sits within a much larger regional economy that includes a metro area population of 2.5+ million. With a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually, local construction and landscaping demand is gradual but persistent: expect steady renovation, incremental new builds, and ongoing property maintenance rather than sudden development booms. Makoti’s climate—152 sunny days annually and 33.50 inches of rain per year in hardiness zone 8b—means homeowners need materials that balance drainage and moisture retention. In practice that translates to well-graded fill and base materials for driveways and foundations, permeable aggregates for managing surface water, and quality topsoil and mulches to support plantings during both wet and sunny stretches. Regional sourcing also matters: locally available aggregates will reflect the area’s geology, so choosing the right gradation and particle shape is important for long-term performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Select a material based on use, drainage needs, and appearance. For vehicle areas choose a sturdier, well-draining mix and plan for 4-8 inches of compacted aggregate; for walkways and plant beds plan 2-4 inches. Consider West North Dakota freeze-thaw cycles when picking a material and ask our team or use the material calculator for guidance.
Cold winters and spring thaw can change delivery windows and material performance, especially for fine materials that can wash away during runoff. Schedule deliveries in late spring through fall for ease of placement when possible, and choose coarser, well-draining materials for areas exposed to freeze-thaw. If you need winter delivery, expect potential delays and discuss placement options with your hauler.
Standard delivery typically requires at least 2 business days, while next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Because Makoti is a small, rural community, allow extra time for scheduling and confirmation; we will notify you of a delivery window once your order is assigned. Always confirm access and placement needs when ordering to avoid delays.
Rural deliveries can include longer haul distances, which may affect price, so material and delivery costs reflect regional sourcing and truck routing. Minimum orders start at 3 tons, which helps cover trucking costs for smaller jobs. Use our online quote tool or contact our team for an itemized estimate that separates material and delivery fees.
Measure the area in feet, decide on the desired depth in inches, and use a material calculator to convert to tons; our site has a calculator and our team can help. Typical depths: 2-4 inches for landscaping beds, 3-6 inches for walkways, and 4-8 inches for driveways. Always order a small overage (5-10%) to account for compaction and grading.
Many small towns and counties have rules about driveway cuts, right-of-way, and drainage; in Makoti it is wise to check with county or city public works before altering a driveway or placing material in a public right-of-way. Permits are less common for small yard projects, but always confirm setbacks and septic setbacks if relevant. If you need help, contact our team and we can point you to local resources.
Provide clear directions, a preferred drop zone, and any access limitations such as low-hanging wires, narrow gates, or soft ground. Let us know if you need material placed near a structure, behind a fence, or on a steep slope so the driver can assess safety and feasibility. Tailgate spreading may be requested at checkout but is performed at the driver’s discretion and is not guaranteed.
Materials reflect local geology, so texture and color can vary from photos and between deliveries. That natural variation is normal and does not usually affect performance, but if appearance is critical, note your preference at checkout and contact our team to discuss local options. For exact matches, a site visit sample request may be needed before ordering.
We support both homeowners and contractors and can connect you with suppliers who offer a range of mixes and bulk quantities, but minimum orders start at 3 tons. For large or specialized jobs, discuss volume and scheduling needs with our sales team to arrange suitable truck sizes and delivery windows. Contractors often benefit from advance scheduling and consolidated deliveries to control costs.
Contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. We will make a best effort to accommodate modifications, but ability to change depends on where your order is in the scheduling and dispatch process. For last-minute issues at delivery, speak directly with the driver and then follow up with customer service.
We source materials regionally so they reflect local geology and perform appropriately in Makoti’s climate. Our team can recommend materials that handle freeze-thaw conditions and local drainage patterns, and we provide guidance on compaction and installation. If you have a specific site concern, share photos or details so we can give targeted advice.
Expect a call or text confirming the delivery window and a driver from a contracted trucking company in a tri-axle or similar dump truck. The driver will assess access upon arrival and may decline placement that could be unsafe; plan a clear drop zone and protect nearby vegetation. If you need assistance with spreading, request it at checkout but understand that spreading is at the driver’s discretion and not guaranteed.
