Local Insights
Randolph has a city population of 1,280 and sits within a metro area population of 2.5+ million, a setting that supports steady demand for homebuilding and outdoor projects. A growth rate of 0.40% annually signals measured, ongoing development rather than rapid expansion—so homeowners can expect regular but manageable construction and landscaping activity, with steady needs for foundations, drainage, driveways, and garden projects. With 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, Randolph’s climate favors outdoor work for much of the year but requires materials that handle both sun exposure and periodic wet conditions. In this environment, high-quality bulk materials—gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and crushed stone—play different roles: stabilizing surfaces, promoting drainage, protecting plantings, and supporting hardscape installations. Choosing locally sourced aggregates that reflect regional geology helps ensure consistent appearance and performance for driveways, patios, raised beds, and erosion control.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Pick materials based on load, drainage, appearance, and winter performance. For structural areas like driveways choose materials that compact well and shed water, while decorative areas may prioritize color and texture. Because materials are regionally sourced, gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mixes may look and perform slightly differently in Randolph; use our material calculator and contact our team for guidance.
Common projects include driveways, base layers for patios and pavers, garden beds, grading/fill and simple erosion repair. Quantity depends on area and depth; our calculator can convert square feet and depth into tons. Keep in mind our minimum order is 3 tons, so small topping or touch-up jobs often require at least that amount.
Choose materials that promote drainage and resist frost heave for cold climates. Angular, well-draining aggregates are often used for base layers, while coarser top layers help prevent washout; finer materials can be used for grading or planting mixes but may settle more through freeze-thaw cycles. Ask our team about local mixes that reflect West Minnesota geology for the best winter performance.
Standard delivery is generally 2+ business days from order confirmation, and next-day delivery is often available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Rural or remote deliveries around Randolph may require additional lead time, so we recommend checking availability for your zip code and booking as early as possible. You will receive confirmation with the estimated delivery window after checkout.
Deliveries are typically made by tri-axle dump trucks and require clear access and a stable place to dump material. Please note overhead wires, steep driveways, culverts and narrow roads can restrict truck access; add delivery notes at checkout and confirm any special access instructions. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and larger spreading jobs usually require hired labor.
Costs vary by material type, quantity and distance from the supplier; larger orders generally lower the per-ton price. Small residential jobs (a few tons) including delivery often run in the low hundreds of dollars, while bigger loads for driveways or commercial projects can run higher; request an online quote for exact pricing. Delivery fees depend on access, distance and whether next-day service is requested.
The prime season for deliveries and installation in Randolph is late spring through early fall when ground conditions are firm and weather is reliable. Avoid very wet spring thaw periods and winter freezes because muddy or frozen ground can complicate delivery and installation. Book ahead for summer weekends and consider weekday delivery to reduce scheduling delays.
You should check local city or county permitting and any HOA rules before ordering, especially for new driveways, major grading, or material placed near public right-of-way. Permits or required erosion controls can affect where and how much material you can place. If you are unsure, contact Randolph city offices or your HOA for guidance before finalizing your order.
Hello Gravel specializes in sourcing and delivering bulk materials and can often refer local suppliers and haulers who work with contractors. Some suppliers or partners may offer installation services, but Hello Gravel primarily coordinates material supply and delivery rather than guaranteeing installation. Contact our team for referrals and to request bundled material-plus-installation quotes when available.
