Local Insights
Hastings has a city population of 27,420 and sits within a larger metro area of 2.5+ million people. Its measured growth rate of 0.40% annually signals steady, modest expansion—enough to sustain continued demand for home improvements, infill construction, and yard upgrades without the volatility of a boom market. The local climate, with 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, together with hardiness zone 8b, influences material selection: projects benefit from aggregates and soils that balance drainage and compaction, mulches and topsoils that tolerate prolonged sun exposure, and base layers that handle seasonal wetting and drying. Homeowner trends here favor durable, low-maintenance landscapes and repair-ready solutions that perform across seasons, which makes access to reliable bulk supplies—gravel, dirt, sand, mulch, and stone—particularly important for long-lasting results.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Think about the use, drainage, and appearance. For load-bearing areas pick coarser, compactable blends; for patios or paths consider smoother, finer mixes for a stable surface. Use our material calculator and talk to our sales team to match gravel, sand, dirt, or stone to your project and budget.
Yes. Hastings sees freeze-thaw cycles, heavy spring runoff, and is near major rivers, so groundwater, erosion, and drainage matter. Choose materials and installation methods designed for wet conditions and seasonal changes, and plan for proper drainage and compaction.
Match the material to the task: coarser mixes for structural bases and drainage, medium grades for driveways, and finer material for leveling or top dressing. If you are unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our specialists for recommendations that work with local soil and climate.
Measure the area and desired depth, then use our online material calculator to convert to tons. As a rule of thumb, bring measurements to checkout and remember Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum order, so plan accordingly for coverage and compaction.
We serve Hastings (primary zip 55033) and many nearby zip codes, but availability depends on your exact address. Enter your zip code at checkout or contact us to confirm service to your location and see delivery options.
Standard delivery requires 2 or more business days to schedule, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. You choose your preferred date at checkout, and we will confirm with local suppliers and contracted haulers.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on site access and safety. Request spreading in Order Notes at checkout and the driver will assess feasibility upon arrival.
Materials reflect local geology, so color, size, and texture can vary regionally around Hastings. We encourage customers to note color preferences at checkout and contact customer service if you need guidance or samples before ordering.
Possibly. Deliveries that block the road, involve heavy equipment, or take place in regulated riparian or floodplain zones may require city permits or HOA approval. Check with the City of Hastings and any local authorities before scheduling work to avoid delays.
Yes. Spring thaw and muddy conditions can restrict heavy trucks, and winter freeze can affect placement and compaction. Plan projects for drier months when possible, and contact us early in high-season to secure preferred delivery dates.
Contact our team as soon as possible; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched. We will do our best to modify orders but ability to change depends on processing status and supplier/hauler schedules.
Tell our team about slope, proximity to water, and desired outcome so we can recommend materials and quantities suited to erosion control and shoreline stabilization. For regulated waterways, also consult local authorities or a licensed contractor to ensure compliance with environmental rules.
Use our online material calculator, get a quote through the website, or call 855-241-8884 / text 844-407-3734 for expert guidance. We connect you with local suppliers and hauling crews and can help find the right gravel, sand, dirt, or stone for your project.
