Local Insights
Wilson has a population of 1,490 and sits within a growing West Michigan region that draws on a metro area of 2.5+ million residents. With a steady growth rate of 1.20% annually, construction and landscaping demand is moderate but persistent—meaning homeowners are seeing more renovation, driveway and hardscape work, and routine yard upgrades rather than only one-off builds. The local climate, which averages 34.25 inches of rain and 228 sunny days per year in a hardiness zone of 8b, requires materials that perform through both wet and sunny stretches. That balance creates consistent need for reliable bulk supplies—soil and topdressing for planting, drainage-friendly aggregates for grading and driveways, and stable base materials for patios and paths. Regional sourcing also means texture and color vary, so choosing the right combination of materials is important for both function and curb appeal.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by thinking about function: load-bearing, drainage, and appearance. For driveways and high-traffic areas pick denser, well-graded aggregates; for planting beds or leveling choose lighter materials. Consider Wilson's climate and drainage needs, and use our material calculator or contact our team for recommendations on gravel, sand, dirt, stone and blends that suit your project.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area and use our online calculator for an accurate estimate. As a rough rule of thumb, one ton typically covers about 80 to 100 square feet at 2 inches depth depending on material and compaction. We recommend ordering a little extra for settling and grading.
Price depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, and seasonal demand. Additional services like next-day delivery or tailgate spreading may add fees. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing based on your zip code so you can see total cost before you order.
Freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow, and wet springs mean drainage and frost resistance are important considerations. Choose materials and gradations that shed water and compact well to avoid heaving, and allow for proper slope and drainage in your design. Our team can advise which gravel, sand, dirt, stone mixes perform best in local conditions.
We connect you with local suppliers who deliver to Wilson and surrounding zip codes; check your zip code on our site to confirm service. Deliveries are handled by contracted dump truck fleets, usually tri-axle trucks, and require a minimum order (3 tons). You can select a preferred delivery date at checkout.
Standard delivery typically takes 2 or more business days from order placement, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Plan major grading or driveway work for spring through fall when ground is not frozen; winter deliveries are possible but can be delayed and may be limited by site access. Order early to secure materials during busy seasons.
Match the material to the job: load-bearing and driveway bases need stable, well-graded aggregates, while planting beds, leveling, or drainage layers may call for sand or looser dirt. Consider appearance, maintenance, and how the material compacts or drains. If unsure, tell us the project type and we will suggest suitable options from local suppliers.
Most surfaces will need occasional topping up, regrading, and compaction after winter and heavy storms. Materials that drain poorly may require additional attention to prevent rutting or erosion. Choosing the right material and proper installation reduces long-term maintenance needs.
Local rules and HOA covenants vary, so check with Wilson city offices, your township, or your HOA before starting work. Hello Gravel can provide material specs, delivery documentation, and invoices to help with permit applications, but obtaining permits and approvals is your responsibility. Contact local authorities if you are unsure.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations. Modifications are easier before the order is processed and the truck is dispatched; we will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee changes. Refer to our order policies for details.
Same-day delivery is limited and depends on local supplier and truck availability; call our team to check options. Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Some suppliers may offer pickup, but minimum order sizes and local rules apply.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout but it is not guaranteed. Make sure the drop area is clear of obstacles, has safe truck access, and that you indicate any special placement instructions in your order notes. For precise spreading or finishing, consider hiring a local contractor who can do final grading.
