Local Insights
Tittabawassee Township is a community of 9,447 residents that is part of a steadily expanding regional economy growing at about 1.50% annually. That steady growth means measured, reliable demand for residential and light commercial projects—driveways, yard remodels, foundation work, and landscaping upgrades—that call for bulk materials in predictable quantities. The local climate (hardiness zone 8b, 152 sunny days per year, and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall) creates a balance of sunny growing conditions and meaningful seasonal moisture. Together these factors make drainage, erosion control, and stable base materials priorities for homeowners. Because materials are regionally sourced, the aggregates, topsoils, sands, and mulches available locally reflect Michigan geology; choosing products that resist settling, handle wet-to-dry cycles, and support plant establishment matters for long-term performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners typically order a mix of materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mulch for driveways, paths, grading, and garden beds. These materials cover base layers, drainage, top dressing, and planting needs, so many projects use two or more material types together.
Choose materials that handle Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles and local drainage needs; using a stable base layer plus a top surface can help minimize frost heave. Consider blends that compact well for driveways and permeable options for walkways to improve drainage and reduce icing.
Quantities depend on area and desired depth, but common guidance is to measure length and width, then multiply by depth to get cubic yards or tons. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team with project dimensions for a precise estimate and recommended depths for different uses.
Standard delivery is usually available in 2+ business days, and next-day delivery can be requested for orders placed before noon CST with an additional fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (typically tri-axle); you can choose a delivery date at checkout and should check availability for Tittabawassee Township by zip code.
Yes, Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons. Larger projects may benefit from volume pricing or direct consultation with our team to optimize material mixes and delivery logistics.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and for safety reasons, but this service is not guaranteed. You can request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely upon arrival.
Local rules and permit requirements can vary by township and project scope, especially for major driveway alterations or curb cuts. Check with Tittabawassee Township offices for permitting rules, and contact our customer team if you need guidance on delivery size or placement restrictions.
Soil type and slope influence drainage and compaction, so preparing a stable subgrade and considering drainage are key before adding gravel, sand, dirt, stone or other aggregates. For sloped sites or clay soils, you may need greater depth, geotextile fabric, or additional drainage features to prevent settling and erosion.
Late spring through early fall is typically best for landscaping and driveway work in Michigan because ground conditions are more stable and access is easier. Winter deliveries are possible in some cases but can be affected by snow, frozen ground, and road restrictions, so plan ahead and check with our team for seasonal options.
Contractors often choose combinations that prioritize a compacted base and good drainage for durability, but preferences vary by project—some favor tighter-graded mixes for driveways, others prefer more permeable options for yards and paths. Talk to our sales team for material recommendations that balance durability, maintenance, and budget for your specific project.
Clear the delivery area of obstacles, mark the desired dump spot, and ensure truck access and turnaround space for a tri-axle dump truck. Address any low-clearance hazards, identify underground utilities when digging, and communicate special placement notes in your order to help drivers deliver safely and accurately.
Natural materials can vary by region, so color and texture may differ from images; contact customer service promptly if you have concerns. For order changes, reach out as soon as possible—Hello Gravel will do its best to accommodate requests prior to dispatch, but changes may be limited once the order is processed.
