Local Insights
Evart is a small but growing community of 5,030 residents located within a larger West Michigan region of 2.5+ million people. A steady 1.20% annual growth rate means more home improvements, additions, and new builds—creating steady demand for bulk materials for driveways, grading, garden beds, and erosion control. With 228 sunny days and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, projects here need materials that handle both drying and wet cycles. The area's hardiness zone 8b supports a wide range of landscaping choices, but it also means homeowners benefit from locally sourced aggregates, soils, and mulches tailored to the local climate. Choosing the right combination of base material, topsoil, and surfacing product helps projects last longer and perform better in Evart's specific conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Measure the area (length x width) and decide the depth you need in inches, then use the formula: length x width x depth (in feet) divided by 27 to get cubic yards. For common projects, 4 inches is a typical depth for bases and 2-3 inches for top dressing, but requirements vary by use. Use our online material calculator or contact our team to double-check your numbers for Evart conditions.
Delivered price depends on the type of material, local supply, and hauling distance, so costs vary across Evart and West Michigan. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing and lets you get an instant quote for your zip code (49631) so you can see exact delivered cost. For larger orders, request a custom quote to factor in site access and any extra services.
Buying bulk is usually more cost-effective per unit than buying bags, especially for larger projects, but savings depend on delivery distance, minimum order size, and site access. Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum and negotiates local rates, so for many Evart projects bulk delivery is the better value. Compare total delivered price and any extra handling before deciding.
A cubic yard of loose material often fits in a full-size pickup bed in terms of volume, but weight can exceed your truck's payload rating depending on the material. Materials like sand or dense stone weigh much more than mulch or wood chips, so check your truck's payload capacity before loading. If in doubt, order delivery—Hello Gravel can deliver by dump truck to avoid hauling risks.
Dump truck capacities vary, but common local dump trucks used for residential deliveries often carry roughly 10 to 16 cubic yards per load. Hello Gravel lists yardage options at checkout and can match you with a truck size appropriate for your order and Evart site conditions. For large jobs, ask for a truck plan so deliveries are scheduled efficiently.
We deliver to Evart zip codes including 49631 and nearby areas, but availability depends on local suppliers and haulers. Standard delivery is typically 2 or more business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Drivers are contracted local haulers and will confirm details before delivery; check your zip code at checkout to see options.
Choose based on function: prioritize drainage and compaction for driveways, finer texture for walkways, and organic-rich top layers for garden beds. Consider local climate and geology in West Michigan—materials sourced nearby will reflect regional color and texture. Use our aggregate quiz or contact our sales team for guidance comparing gravel, sand, dirt, stone to match durability and appearance to your project.
For a 20 x 20 foot area, a 4-inch depth requires about 5 cubic yards (20 x 20 x 0.33 = 133.3 cubic feet = 4.94 cubic yards). If you need a thicker base (for heavy loads or frost protection), increase the depth and recalculate; for example, 6 inches is about 7.4 cubic yards. Always add 5-10% for compaction and waste, and contact us for a quick check on your Evart project.
Tailgate spreading may be available as a courtesy but is always at the driver's discretion and depends on site conditions and safety. You can request spreading at checkout, but there is no guarantee the driver will be able to perform it. For guaranteed spreading, plan to hire a local contractor or ask our team for recommendations in the Evart area.
Natural materials vary by local geology and season, so color, texture, and size may differ from online images. If the material does not match your needs, contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly; we will work with you and the supplier to find a satisfactory solution. For future orders, include color or texture notes at checkout to help suppliers match your preferences.
For small residential jobs you can usually arrange standard delivery in 2 or more business days, but larger contractor projects should be scheduled several days to weeks in advance to secure trucks and material. Seasonal demand, weather, and local supplier inventory in West Michigan can affect timing, so plan early and confirm delivery windows with our team. Request next-day service only when you can accept the possible fee and limited availability.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to help, but modifications depend on supplier and truck scheduling so not all requests can be granted. For fastest help, call our sales team or use the order contact options on your confirmation.
