Local Insights
Walnut has a population of 480 and sits within a larger West Kansas metro that supports a broad construction and landscaping market. With a growth rate of 0.40% annually, demand is steady rather than explosive: homeowners can expect consistent needs for small- to medium-scale projects—driveway repairs, yard refreshes, raised beds, erosion fixes, and incremental home improvements—rather than a surge of large developments. The local climate, with 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, means materials must balance sun exposure and intermittent rainfall. That combination favors durable, well-draining aggregates and soils that hold moisture when needed but shed water quickly in storms. For Walnut homeowners, having reliable access to a range of bulk materials—gravel, dirt, sand, mulch, and stone—helps match materials to specific site conditions and project types while avoiding overbuying or choosing products that won’t perform in local conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Delivery costs vary by material type, quantity, and distance from local suppliers. Hello Gravel lists clear, upfront pricing on each quote and the marketplace often includes free delivery in many areas; note that minimum orders start at 3 tons. For an exact cost, check your zip code and get a quote through the site.
Choose materials that shed water and resist breakdown from freeze-thaw and hot, dry summers; well-draining, durable aggregates are commonly recommended. Because local geology matters, expect regional variations in gravel, sand, dirt, stone and pick products based on drainage needs, traffic level, and desired appearance.
Hello Gravel works with local suppliers and haulers, so delivery radius varies by supplier, but regional sourcing keeps materials local. Orders typically have a 3-ton minimum and are delivered by dump truck; check your zip code for specific supplier reach and fees.
Spring through early fall is generally best to avoid frozen ground or muddy conditions, but deliveries are possible year-round depending on site access. Plan ahead and reserve materials at least a few days before work; standard delivery requires 2+ business days and next-day service may be available for an extra fee if ordered before noon CST.
Measure the area (length x width), decide the desired depth, and convert cubic feet to tons using a material calculator—this method works for most aggregates. Hello Gravel’s online calculator and sales team can help convert your measurements into a recommended tonnage and account for compaction or waste.
Local rules and HOA covenants vary, so check with Walnut city or your county and any HOA before staging large stockpiles or blocking public roads. Keep stockpiles off public rights of way, plan truck access, and get any needed permits before scheduling delivery.
Prices depend on local supplier availability, distance from quarries, and seasonal demand, so nearby towns can have different rates. Hello Gravel’s network and regional sourcing help surface competitive quotes; compare a few local quotes to see the best option for your project.
Contractors focus on truck access, slope and drainage, compaction needs, and the existing soil type to pick materials that perform well over time. Proper site prep and drainage design are often more important than choosing a single material type—discuss these concerns with your supplier or contractor.
Tailgate spreading may be available at the driver’s discretion; request it at checkout and the driver will assess safety and feasibility upon arrival. There are no guarantees for spreading, so plan for arranging additional spreading equipment or labor if you need a specific finish.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible to request changes; modifications are easier before the order is processed and dispatched but are not guaranteed.
Materials reflect the geology of nearby suppliers, so color, texture, and particle shape can vary by delivery location. These regional differences are normal and can affect aesthetics and drainage, so note color preferences in order notes and ask for local samples if appearance matters.
Contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly with photos and details so we can work with the supplier and hauler to resolve the issue. We will review the situation and help find a satisfactory solution; refer to company policies for refunds or replacements as applicable.
