Local Insights
Franklin is a small community with a population of 400, and its steady growth rate of 0.40% annually points to modest, ongoing demand for home improvements rather than sudden construction booms. That gradual expansion means homeowners are more likely to tackle incremental upgrades—driveways, drainage fixes, patio refreshes, and garden renovations—rather than large-scale developments. The local climate and geography shape material needs: with hardiness zone 8b, 228 sunny days per year, and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, projects must balance sun exposure with occasional heavy rains. That combination favors materials that manage water effectively, resist UV and weathering, and provide stable bases for pavements and plantings. For Franklin homeowners, accessible, quality bulk materials—gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and engineered mixes—help ensure long-lasting driveways, reliable drainage, and resilient landscaping suited to local conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by considering use (car traffic vs foot traffic), drainage needs, and desired look. In Franklin's climate, materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates are common, but you should pick a size and compaction level that matches traffic and maintenance expectations. If you need help, use our material calculator or contact our team for recommendations based on your site and budget.
Franklin and the surrounding West Kansas area experience seasonal temperature swings and occasional heavy rains, so choose materials that drain well and resist frost heave. Regional sourcing means materials will reflect local geology, which affects texture and color. For edges and slopes, consider heavier or angular aggregates to reduce washout.
Calculate the area (length x width) and desired depth to get cubic feet, then convert to tons using a material-specific density estimate. As a rule of thumb, our site calculator can estimate tons for common depths and project types, and our team can review unusual sites or compaction needs. Always allow a small overage for settling and grading work.
Yes, we deliver to Franklin (66735) and many nearby rural zip codes in the West Kansas area, subject to supplier coverage and road access. Enter your zip code at checkout to confirm availability and get an upfront delivery price. For remote or hard-to-reach sites, provide detailed delivery notes to help our drivers plan.
Costs vary by material, quantity, and distance to local suppliers, but factors include the price per ton, minimum order (3 tons), and any delivery fees for longer hauls. Compare quotes for material plus delivery, and factor in extra for grading, compaction, or any spreading services. Contact our sales team for a local estimate based on your exact zip code and project size.
Spring and fall are ideal for most projects because of moderate temperatures and stable ground; avoid late winter freeze-thaw periods and very wet conditions that can make delivery and spreading difficult. Plan ahead for peak seasons and use our 2+ business day standard delivery window or request next-day service before noon CST when available. For time-sensitive jobs, schedule early and confirm with our team.
Match the material to the function: use well-draining, angular aggregates for bases and drainage, and smoother, compactable mixes for walking surfaces or decorative areas. Because local materials vary, think about grain size, compaction needs, and maintenance when choosing between options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates. If unsure, tell us the project goal and we can suggest suitable mixes used locally.
Yes, contractors can place bulk orders and schedule recurring deliveries through our platform, subject to supplier capacity and lead times. We support larger orders, provide upfront pricing, and can coordinate delivery windows that fit your job schedule. For high-volume needs, contact our team to discuss scheduling, staging, and any access requirements.
Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks, typically tri-axle, and the driver will assess safe access on arrival; provide clear notes about driveways, gates, overhead wires, and turnarounds. Trucks need a reasonably level, passable approach to safely dump material; narrow lanes, soft ground, or low bridges can affect where they can place loads. If spreading is requested at checkout, drivers may perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but it is not guaranteed.
Due to regional sourcing, color and texture can vary and may not exactly match photos; if you have concerns, contact customer service promptly and include photos when possible. For order changes, reach out as soon as you can—changes are easier before dispatch but not always possible once a truck is scheduled. We will work to resolve issues and direct you to our refund policy if needed.
Regular maintenance depends on the material and use: regrading low spots, replenishing material after heavy runoff, and periodic compaction help prolong a surface. For driveways, leaving a slight crown and maintaining edges reduces pooling and erosion. Choose materials and gradations suited to local slopes and drainage to minimize long-term upkeep.
We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay through a secure checkout, and you can choose a delivery date on the calendar during checkout. Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee.
