Sand Products Sand Gravel

Sand and gravel is a natural mix of sand and small stones, dug straight from a pit or riverbed. The pieces run from fine grains up through gravel about an inch or two across. Because it hasn't been crushed, the stones are rounded and smooth instead of sharp. You'll sometimes hear it called bank-run or pit-run.

The name just tells you what's in the pile. It's raw material from the ground, not washed or screened to a single size. That makes it cheap and useful for bulk fill, rough grading, and sub-base work under a driveway or slab. If you need a clean sand or one specific gravel size, you'll want a washed or screened product instead.
