Local Insights
Spring Valley has a city population of 3,030 and sits within a metro area population of 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.20% annually means more homes, yards, and small developments are being updated or added, creating ongoing demand for landscaping and construction materials. In a climate with 228/year sunny days, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners need materials that strike a balance between drainage and plant establishment — from well-graded base mixes and clean sand for leveling to quality topsoil and mulch for planting beds. Seasonal weather patterns and local geology also influence texture, color, and availability, so regionally sourced materials and accurate quantity planning matter for keeping projects on schedule and within budget.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials based on function and drainage rather than appearance alone. For load-bearing surfaces pick a well-graded aggregate that compacts; for patios and garden beds choose materials that provide good drainage and a stable base. Because we source regionally, materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone will vary in texture and color, so consider local samples before ordering.
Pick materials with good drainage and resistance to breaking down with repeated freezing and thawing to reduce frost heave and rutting. Aggregates and base materials that compact well and shed water help limit freeze-thaw damage; top layers that are dense and angular resist movement from snowplows and salt. Expect regional variation, and ask suppliers about local performance in West Wisconsin conditions.
Late spring through early fall is the easiest time for deliveries and installation because ground is unfrozen and access roads are typically clear. Winter deliveries are possible but may be limited by frozen ground, snow, or road restrictions and can increase the risk of material freezing or spreading issues. Plan ahead and pick a delivery date in checkout, keeping in mind standard lead times of 2+ business days and next-day options for eligible orders.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area and convert those dimensions to cubic yards or tons using an online material calculator. Account for compaction and waste by adding 5-15% extra depending on material and project; deeper base layers need more allowance. Use our website calculator or contact our team for help with common projects in Spring Valley.
Rural roads, tight driveways, low-hanging wires, and seasonal weight limits can affect which trucks can deliver and where they can safely dump. Most deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks, so provide accurate access details at checkout and note narrow roads or gates so we can coordinate the right haul. If you’re unsure about local weight limits or township rules, check with your local public works or homeowners association before ordering.
Some drivers and local haulers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service during checkout. Because spreading depends on site conditions and safety, it is not guaranteed and is evaluated upon arrival. For guaranteed spreading and compaction, plan to hire a local contractor or landscaping crew after delivery.
Regulations vary by township and can cover importing fill, changing drainage, or altering finished grades, so check with Spring Valley town offices or Pierce County before major earthwork. Small landscaping deliveries often do not need permits, but work that affects drainage, wetlands, or public right-of-way may require approvals. Contact local authorities or ask our team for guidance if you think permits might be needed.
Hello Gravel typically requires a 3-ton minimum order and offers standard delivery in 2+ business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. We accept major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay through a secure checkout, and you can choose your preferred delivery date on the calendar. Provide accurate address and access notes to avoid delays and contact our team if you need to change an order quickly.
Prices depend on material type, local availability, and distance from the supplier, so costs are quoted per ton or per cubic yard at checkout. Expect regional variation because Hello Gravel sources locally, and delivery fees can affect the final price. Use the website to get an instant quote for your zip code or contact our sales team for a custom estimate.
Natural materials will vary in color and texture due to regional sourcing, so minor differences are common; if you have concerns contact customer service promptly. We will work with you and the supplier to address issues and can reference our order and refund policies for next steps. For fastest resolution, document the delivery with photos and save any order notes or delivery receipts.
