Local Insights
South Kenosha, with a population of 95,696 and located in the broader Milwaukee-Waukesha region of 2.6+ million, is experiencing steady, modest growth at about 0.40% annually. That level of growth typically translates into a mix of homeowner renovation projects and selective new construction rather than rapid sprawl, which keeps demand steady for a range of bulk materials—driveway bases, landscape soils, mulches, and drainage aggregates. The local climate—228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b—creates seasonal cycles homeowners must plan for. Sunny summers encourage outdoor living projects, while wet springs and cold winters increase the need for dependable drainage, frost-resistant base materials, and erosion control. In this environment, quality, locally sourced bulk materials matter because they address both performance (drainage, compaction, freeze-thaw stability) and appearance (landscape finish and curb appeal).

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching the material's performance to your project needs: drainage, load-bearing, and appearance. Consider local climate factors like freeze-thaw cycles and road salt when choosing a material, and use Hello Gravel's material quiz or talk to our team for recommendations. If you are unsure, select a material that balances drainage and compaction and request guidance before ordering.
We supply materials for a wide range of projects including driveways, patios, pathways, site grading, drainage solutions, backfill, erosion control, and landscaping beds. Both homeowners and contractors can order small or large quantities and schedule deliveries to match project timelines. Tell us about your project when ordering so we can help match the right material and delivery approach.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide on the depth you want, then convert to cubic yards by multiplying area by depth (in feet) and dividing by 27. Use Hello Gravel's online material calculator to convert cubic yards to tons for the specific material you choose and remember our minimum order is 3 tons. If you prefer, contact our team with your project dimensions and we can help confirm quantities.
Standard delivery typically takes 2+ business days, while next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks), and you pick your preferred date at checkout. Drivers will coordinate access on arrival, and you should clear the drop area and mark any obstacles before delivery.
Tailgate spreading may be available at the driver's discretion and can be requested at checkout, but it is not guaranteed. Drivers will assess safety and site conditions on arrival before deciding whether to spread material. If spreading is required for your project, include details in Order Notes and consider hiring a local crew if you need precise grading.
No. Because we source regionally, color, texture, and particle size can vary based on local geology and stockpile conditions. Photos are meant as a guide; you can add color or appearance preferences in Order Notes and contact our team for samples or additional guidance before ordering.
Consider freeze-thaw cycles, winter salt exposure, and wet spring conditions when picking materials. Choose materials and installation methods that improve drainage and resist shifting or erosion, and avoid installing some surface materials during heavy freeze periods. Our team can advise about seasonal timing and material choices for local conditions.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible with your order number and requested change; we will do our best to accommodate requests before the order is processed. Changes may be limited once materials are dispatched or if trucks are scheduled, so earlier notice improves the chances of a successful change. For cancellations, contact support promptly to review available options.
Pricing is transparent at checkout and can vary by ZIP code, delivery distance, and truck staging requirements; many areas offer free delivery. Next-day delivery is available for an additional fee for orders placed before noon CST, and the site will show any applicable charges before you pay. Minimum order requirements and delivery method (dump truck) can affect total cost.
Create an account or contact our sales team to arrange volume orders, recurring deliveries, or site staging details. Provide clear delivery instructions, access details, and any permit information up front so haulers can plan routes and staging. We can coordinate multiple truckloads and assist with scheduling to match your project timeline.
You may need permits for work in the public right-of-way, curb cuts, or large excavation and fill projects. Check with South Kenosha city or Kenosha County for local permit requirements before ordering, and let us know if the delivery needs to cross public property so we can advise the hauler. If you are unsure, our team can help point you toward the right local contacts.
Longevity depends on the material and how it is installed; good drainage, proper compaction, and periodic top-ups greatly extend life. Routine maintenance often includes re-leveling, replacing displaced material, and removing vegetation in landscaped beds. For driveways or high-traffic areas, plan for occasional maintenance intervals based on local weather and use.
Contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly with photos and a description of the issue so we can assess and work toward a resolution. We will review your order, coordinate with the supplier and hauler, and explain next steps according to our policies. Keeping documentation and order details handy speeds up the process.
