Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by defining the project: drainage, driveway base, top dressing, or erosion control. For most outdoor projects, consider factors like load-bearing needs, drainage, appearance, and local climate; gravel, sand, dirt, and stone each perform differently for these uses. Use our aggregate quiz or contact our team for guidance and realistic quantity estimates based on your project size.
Standard delivery is usually 2+ business days from order, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (typically tri-axle) and you choose a preferred date at checkout. Exact timing depends on supplier availability, weather, and local hauling schedules.
Hello Gravel's minimum order is 3 tons. Delivery fees vary by supplier distance, truck type, and site access; many areas offer free delivery while others incur a charge. Final cost is shown at checkout so you can see any delivery fees before you pay.
Freeze-thaw cycles, snow and spring mud can make delivery and installation harder from late fall through early spring in Manitowoc County. Plan heavy deliveries for drier months when possible, and expect longer lead times or access issues in winter and during wet spring periods. For time-sensitive projects, consider next-day delivery when available and discuss site access with your supplier.
For structural layers and drainage you typically choose materials based on compaction and permeability rather than brand: a stable base, a draining intermediate layer, and a decorative surface are common for driveways and patios. For erosion control, choose material that resists movement and supports vegetation or installed containment. Our team can help pick combinations of gravel, sand, dirt, and stone that match performance needs and local conditions.
Calculate by measuring area and desired depth; a simple rule is area (square feet) times depth (feet) divided by 27 to get cubic yards. One cubic yard can weigh differently by material and moisture, commonly about 1.2 to 1.7 tons. Use our material calculator or contact support if you need help converting to tons or estimating delivery loads.
Yes. Because Hello Gravel sources regionally, texture, size and color will reflect local geology and natural variation. Photos are representative; if color or consistency is critical, note preferences in Order Notes and we will pass them to the supplier. Expect small differences between batches and shipments.
Prices depend on local supplier costs, haul distance, and demand, so they can be slightly higher or lower than neighboring counties. Hello Gravel provides transparent pricing up front so you can compare options when you enter your zip code. For larger projects, request a quote to see volume pricing and delivery details.
Permit requirements depend on the scope and location of your work. Driveway changes, major grading, or shoreline work may require county or municipal permits and possibly erosion-control plans; check with Manitowoc County or your city zoning office before ordering large volumes. If you have an HOA, also confirm any landscape or material rules.
Beyond material and delivery, budget for site prep, grading, compaction, and any removal and disposal of old material. Labor and equipment charges vary by contractor and project complexity, so get several local estimates to factor into your total budget. For small DIY jobs, account for rental equipment, compaction tools and extra material for settling and waste.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request it at checkout, but this service is not guaranteed. The driver will assess safety and access upon arrival and decide whether spreading is possible. If spreading is critical, plan to hire a local contractor or mention it when you confirm delivery details.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed and dispatched. We will work with the supplier and hauler to help modify or cancel your order when feasible, but changes cannot be guaranteed once trucks are scheduled. See our customer service options for guidance and next steps.
