Local Insights
Hubertus (population 5,490) is part of a steadily growing region with a 1.20% annual growth rate, which translates into consistent demand for home improvements, new driveways, and landscape upgrades. That steady growth—rather than a boom—means homeowners and contractors are planning projects over seasons rather than rushing large buildouts. With 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in a hardiness zone of 8b, the local climate favors year-round exterior work but also requires materials that balance drainage and durability. Homeowners here prioritize reliable base materials for driveways and patios, good topsoil and compost for planting, and erosion-control products for sloped yards. Sourcing bulk materials locally ensures they reflect regional geology and perform as expected in Hubertus conditions, so choosing the right mixes of sand, gravel, mulch, and dirt matters for long-term results.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Hubertus commonly order materials for driveways, patios, walkways, landscape beds, grading and drainage work, and small hardscape projects. Contractors also order for site prep, backfill, and erosion control. Most projects use a combination of gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates depending on the task.
Freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow, and spring runoff make drainage and frost resistance key considerations in Hubertus. For load-bearing areas choose well-draining, angular materials for a compacted base; for landscaping choose materials that tolerate wet and freezing conditions. Regional sourcing means appearance and gradation can vary, so plan for local variation when picking a product.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order, with a next-day option available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Minimum order sizes generally start around 3 tons, and deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (usually tri-axle). You can pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, but exact timing depends on local supplier and road access.
Decide first whether the material will be used as a structural base or a surface layer, then pick materials that meet those needs for drainage and load. For bases, look for materials that compact well and shed water; for surfaces, consider durability, appearance, and maintenance. Use the material calculator or our aggregate quiz and consult the sales team if you need help comparing options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and blends.
Common guidance is 6-8 inches of compacted base for residential driveways (more for heavy trucks), 3-4 inches of surface material for driveway finish, 4-6 inches total for walkways, and 4-6 inches of compacted base for patios. Landscape beds and top-dressing often use 2-4 inches of soil or mulch. These are general ranges; use our calculator to convert dimensions to cubic yards or tons and consult a contractor for sites with poor soil or drainage.
Permit requirements vary by municipality and by the scope of work, so check with the Town of Hubertus or Washington County building department before starting large projects. Large deliveries that block the street, require curb cuts, or exceed truck weight limits may need permits or notifications. Hello Gravel coordinates delivery but cannot issue permits, so plan permit checks early in your project timeline.
Spring through early fall is the busiest and most reliable season for deliveries and installations in Hubertus because ground conditions are easier to work with. Late fall can be good for drainage prep but may be limited by contractor availability and early freezes. Winter deliveries are possible but can be slower, and frozen ground or snow can affect placement and compaction, so plan ahead and allow extra time.
Clear the drop zone of vehicles, low-hanging wires, and obstructions and make sure the truck has safe access to the site; keep bystanders and pets away during the drop. Expect a dump truck (usually tri-axle) and ask for tailgate spreading at checkout if desired, understanding drivers perform spreading at their discretion. If you have concerns about surface protection or exact placement, note them in Order Notes and contact our team before delivery.
Customers often worry about compaction, drainage, settling, and material consistency or color variation due to regional sourcing. They also ask about mixing materials, how much they need, staging and cleanup, and how snow and freeze-thaw cycles will affect performance. We recommend using the calculator, ordering a little extra for waste and settling, and contacting customer service for guidance on compaction and drainage strategies.
