Local Insights
Amberg's city population is 720, and it sits within a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.20% annually suggests ongoing, predictable demand for home improvements and modest new construction rather than a sudden building boom—meaning many homeowners will be tackling landscaping upgrades, driveway repairs, and small additions over time. With an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches and 228 sunny days per year in hardiness zone 8b, building and planting seasons are fairly consistent. Those local conditions favor materials that handle both wet periods and extended sun exposure: stable base aggregates for driveways, well-draining soils and sands for planting beds, erosion-control products for sloped yards, and UV-resistant organic mulches. Sourcing quality bulk supplies—gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone—helps projects stand up to Amberg's climate and reduces maintenance down the line.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials based on use, appearance, and drainage rather than one 'best' option. For vehicle areas pick a stable, well-compacted base and a top layer that handles traffic and freeze-thaw; for patios and walkways consider materials that compact well and shed water. Because materials are regionally sourced, gravel, sand, dirt, stone may vary in texture and color in West Wisconsin — use our material quiz or contact our team for help choosing the right option for your project.
Repeated freezing and thawing can cause settling, heaving, and loss of fines in surfaced areas, and heavy snowplowing can scatter loose material. Materials that allow drainage and a properly prepared, compacted base reduce problems from freeze-thaw. Plan for seasonal maintenance like regrading or topping up loose material after winter.
Ensure surface areas slope away from buildings and toward appropriate drainage points to prevent water pooling and foundation issues. Wet or clay soils common in the region may need subdrainage, geotextile fabric, or added base material to improve stability. If you expect standing water or poor soil, consider upsizing the base and consulting our team for product and installation recommendations.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for exterior projects in Amberg because the ground is thawed and weather is more predictable. Avoid peak freeze-thaw periods in late winter and early spring when materials and compaction perform poorly. If you need faster turnaround, ask about next-day delivery options and plan work around local weather forecasts.
Hello Gravel typically requires a minimum order of 3 tons and uses dump trucks (often tri-axle) for delivery. Standard delivery is scheduled 2+ business days out, and next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; request it at checkout and note that it cannot be guaranteed.
Clear the delivery area of vehicles, low branches, and loose obstacles, and mark the preferred drop zone in your order notes. Make sure the driveway or access path can support a loaded dump truck; soft or steep driveways may require an alternate drop location. If you have questions about access or need special instructions, include them at checkout or call our team before delivery.
Cost depends on material type, quantity, distance from the supplier, seasonal demand, and any additional services like spreading. Some areas qualify for free delivery, but remote locations or small orders may incur fees. Use our online calculator and request a quote to see accurate pricing for your zip code and project size.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; changes are easier before an order is dispatched but are not always possible. You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but drivers will assess safety and feasibility on arrival and cannot guarantee spreading. For any delivery issues, reach out to customer service and we will work to resolve the situation.
Local ordinances, county regulations, and homeowner association rules can affect curb cuts, driveway replacements, and material deliveries, so check with Amberg or Marinette County offices before starting work. Also call your local diggers hotline to locate underground utilities before digging or installing drainage. If you need guidance, our team can remind you to verify permits during planning.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area to calculate volume, then convert cubic yards to tons using our online calculator or the material calculator on our site. Account for compaction and waste by ordering slightly more than the exact volume, and remember our 3-ton minimum when planning small projects. If you want help, use our calculator or contact our sales team for a quick estimate.
