Local Insights
Franklin has a city population of 11,250 and sits within a metro area of 2.6+ million, and its steady 2.40% annual growth rate reflects ongoing demand for new construction, renovations, and landscaping work. That steady growth means local homeowners are often planning improvements—driveways, patios, grading projects, and plant beds—that require predictable quantities of bulk materials. With an average of 228 sunny days and 34.25 inches of rainfall each year, climate plays a direct role in material selection: you need products that manage runoff and resist washout during wet spells, yet stand up to sun exposure and seasonal drying. The region's hardiness zone of 8b indicates relatively mild winters, shaping choices for frost-sensitive installations and organic materials. In this environment, quality bulk supplies—gravel, sand, dirt, stone, mulch, and blended aggregates—support long-lasting results when they are properly matched to site conditions and installed with attention to drainage and compaction.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Hello Gravel works with local suppliers and haulers that serve Franklin and nearby zip codes (check your zip code on our site). Minimum order size is typically 3 tons, and deliveries are made by dump trucks (commonly tri-axle). Be prepared to provide access details and a safe drop area so drivers can unload without obstruction.
Standard delivery is usually 2+ business days from order placement, while next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Same-day delivery is rarely available; lead times can also lengthen during busy seasons or bad weather, so check estimated delivery dates at checkout.
Start by defining the project's purpose: load-bearing surfaces need more durable aggregates and a good base, while garden beds and paths prioritize drainage and appearance. Think about drainage needs, maintenance, and look, and use our material calculator and aggregate quiz or contact our team to match the right group of materials (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) to your project.
Franklin experiences regular rain and occasional freeze-thaw cycles, so plan installations when the ground is relatively dry and stable to help with compaction and grading. Wet or frozen ground can reduce effectiveness and make spreading harder, so spring through fall is often best for most projects, depending on weather.
Low-lying spots and clay-rich soils are common in parts of the region and can hold water, so plan for proper grading, base layers, and drainage features. In areas with poor drainage, choosing materials and preparation that promote runoff and adding geotextile or a compacted base will improve long-term performance.
Permit and HOA requirements vary by city, county, and neighborhood; some driveway changes or larger grading projects may require permits or erosion-control measures. Check with Franklin city offices, Isle of Wight County, or your HOA before starting work; Hello Gravel can deliver materials but does not handle permitting.
Yes, many local contractors offer both full installation and material-only delivery options. For accurate installation estimates, have project dimensions, photos of the site and access points, preferred material type, and any permit or HOA details ready when you request a quote.
Online calculators provide a helpful estimate in tons or cubic yards based on your measurements, but you should add 5 to 10 percent for waste, compaction, and grading adjustments. If your site has slopes, uneven ground, or heavy compaction needs, consider ordering a bit more and ask our team to review your numbers.
Delivery fees depend on supplier distance, access, and order size; many areas offer free delivery but fees can apply in some locations. Tailgate spreading can be requested at checkout but is done at the driver's discretion and is not guaranteed; additional charges may apply for difficult access or tight drops.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible so we can review the issue and work with the supplier to find a solution. Because materials are regionally sourced, color and texture can vary; changes are easiest to accommodate before dispatch, and we will explain next steps and available options.
