Local Insights
East Ryegate is a small but active community (city population: 1,110) with steady regional connections (metro area population: 993,588) and a measured growth rate: 0.40% annually. That steady, incremental growth typically means gradual increases in renovation and small-scale construction rather than a sudden building boom — homeowners are more likely to update driveways, expand outdoor living spaces, and invest in drainage and garden upgrades. Local climate and geography — including 228 sunny days annually, annual rainfall: 33.50 inches, and a hardiness zone: 8b — shape material choices: you'll want supplies that manage moisture, resist seasonal wear, and support plantings suited to the zone. For these projects, reliable bulk materials such as fill dirt, screened topsoil, sand, mulch, and various stone products matter because they determine drainage performance, compaction stability, and long-term appearance across East Ryegate properties.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials based on load, drainage, and maintenance needs. For most residential driveways, pick a material mix that compacts well and sheds water; regional suppliers in Vermont often offer suitable options. Use our material calculator or contact our team for guidance on depth and coverage, and remember minimum orders start at 3 tons.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area to get a cubic yard estimate, then convert to tons using our online calculator. Add 5-15% extra for compaction and waste depending on the project. If you need help, our team can walk through the numbers with you.
Yes. Freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal wetness in Vermont can affect settling and drainage, so choose materials that handle frost and move water away from structures. We recommend planning for good drainage and asking our team about regional options that suit local climate conditions.
Not always. Because we source regionally, texture and color can vary with local geology, so materials may look different than pictures. You can add color or texture preferences in Order Notes, and contact customer service if you want more detail before ordering.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You pick a preferred delivery date at checkout, and deliveries are handled by contracted dump truck fleets; minimum order is 3 tons. We send confirmations and the driver will contact you if there are access issues.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but it depends on site access, safety, and truck capabilities. Request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess when they arrive, but spreading is not guaranteed. Plan for some manual or equipment work after delivery.
Sometimes. Deliveries that use public roads, require temporary blocking of traffic, or exceed local weight limits may need town or county permits. Check with East Ryegate town offices or county authorities before scheduling a large drop, and let our team know if a permit is required so we can coordinate with the hauler.
Schedule a delivery window, add clear drop instructions in your order notes, and provide a phone number so the driver can reach you. Many drivers will take a photo of the drop for your records, but leaving materials unattended carries some risk from weather or theft. If you prefer, arrange to be on site or ask a trusted neighbor to receive the delivery.
Local geology influences particle shape, drainage, and color, so materials sourced near East Ryegate may perform differently than those from other regions. Tell our team about your project goals and local site conditions so we can recommend options that match performance needs. Regional sourcing also helps reduce haul cost and supports local suppliers.
Contact our customer team as soon as possible and provide your order details; changes are easiest before the order is dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate schedule or material adjustments, but modifications depend on supplier and truck scheduling and are not guaranteed. Review our order policy or call 855-241-8884 for assistance.
