Local Insights
Benson is a tight-knit community of 157 residents, and its steady 0.40% annual growth points to gradual, sustained demand for home repairs, landscaping upgrades, and modest construction projects rather than a building boom. That steady expansion means homeowners are often focused on improving existing properties—driveway maintenance, drainage fixes, garden bed refreshes, and small hardscape additions—so bulk materials are needed reliably and in manageable quantities. With 228 sunny days and 33.50 inches of rain each year in a hardiness zone of 8b, Benson's climate favors outdoor projects but also requires materials that balance permeability and stability; homeowners here need materials that shed water effectively yet support planting and traffic. At the same time, Benson sits within a larger metro region of 993,588 people, which supports a network of local suppliers and hauling options—making it practical to source a range of gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone locally while getting dependable delivery and support.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching the material to the job: consider traffic load, drainage needs, and the look you want. For most projects you can compare options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone as a group for durability, drainage, and finish, then refine by size and finish. If you need help, use our material quiz or contact our team for recommendations based on Benson's local climate and soil conditions.
Our materials suit a wide range of projects: driveways, walkways, patios, drainage trenches, grading and fill, garden beds, and erosion control. Both homeowners and contractors can order bulk loads for small repairs or full installations, and we can recommend material depth and staging for each use.
Measure length, width, and desired depth in feet and use this formula: (length x width x depth) / 27 to get cubic yards. Convert cubic yards to tons based on the material density or use our online material calculator to simplify the conversion, and add about 5-10% extra for compaction and waste; note our minimum order is 3 tons.
Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers that serve Benson, but availability can vary by zip code—check your ZIP at checkout. Our standard delivery requires at least 2 business days and a minimum order of 3 tons; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee.
Benson's winter snow, frozen ground, and spring thaw can limit truck access and affect compaction and grading. Wet or snowy conditions may delay delivery or prevent tailgate spreading; plan around seasons, schedule early, and contact us if weather could impact access or timing.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout. It is subject to site safety and truck access, and we cannot guarantee spreading on every delivery.
Permit requirements vary by municipality and by project type; simple garden deliveries may not need permits, but driveway changes, culvert work, or major grading often do. Check with the Benson town office or local planning department before ordering to confirm any permits or setback rules.
Materials are sourced locally so texture, color, and particle shape will reflect West Vermont geology. This means products like gravel, sand, dirt, stone may look different than photos, but they are suited to local climate and drainage—note any color preferences in your order notes and we will try to accommodate them.
Contractors should plan for truck access, staging area for multiple loads, compaction requirements, and clear delivery windows. Contact our sales team for volume pricing, scheduling assistance, and to coordinate deliveries across multiple days for large jobs.
Prices vary by material type, distance from supplier, seasonal demand, and the amount ordered, so costs per ton or cubic yard can fluctuate. The fastest way to get an accurate price is to request a quote through our site or use the online calculator; we show transparent pricing and any delivery fees up front.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications, but changes are not guaranteed once the local supplier or hauler has started processing the order; see our policies for more details.
