Local Insights
Oelrichs has a city population of 260, situated within a broader metro area population of 993,588. With a modest growth rate of 0.40% annually, construction and landscaping demand here tends to be steady and incremental rather than boom-driven; homeowners are more often updating and maintaining properties than rapidly expanding new subdivisions. The local climate—228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 33.50 inches, in hardiness zone 8b—favors projects that balance drought tolerance with occasional heavy rains. That combination makes choices like well-draining base materials, stabilized pathways, and quality topsoil important for long-term performance. For residents, this means ordering a mix of aggregates, soils, and mulches that support durable driveways, erosion control, and low-maintenance planting beds that suit ongoing upkeep needs rather than one-time installs.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Oelrichs commonly order groups of materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mulch for driveways, base layers, grading, raised beds, and erosion control. These materials are sourced locally so texture and color can vary by supplier; choose based on function (drainage vs. fill vs. finish) rather than appearance alone.
Oelrichs experiences freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal moisture that can influence performance, so pick materials and construction methods that promote drainage and resist frost heave. Well-draining aggregates and proper base depth work better than very fine, loose material in freezing conditions, and regional sourcing means your gravel, sand, dirt, stone may behave differently than materials in other states.
Use the simple volume formula (length x width x depth) divided by 27 to convert cubic feet to cubic yards, then check the material weight on the product page or use our material calculator for tons. As a rough guide, small walkways often need 1-3 tons, single-car driveways 10-20 tons, and larger driveways or major grading jobs 20+ tons — order a little extra for compaction and grading.
Standard delivery is scheduled for 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee; minimum orders start at 3 tons. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets (typically tri-axle trucks), and you can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout.
Yes; rural deliveries often face access limits like narrow lanes, soft shoulders, low-hanging wires, or weight limits on private drives and bridge approaches, so provide clear access instructions and photos at checkout. Drivers will assess safety on arrival and may refuse placement if conditions are unsafe; consider an alternate drop location or staging area if needed.
Permit and HOA rules vary by county and property, so check with Oelrichs city or county offices and any homeowners association before ordering. Simple landscaping orders often do not require permits, but work that affects right-of-way, drainage, culverts, or wetlands may need approvals.
Contractors typically recommend late spring through early fall when the ground is drier and compaction is easier, avoiding the spring thaw and very wet conditions. For erosion control or storm prep, plan deliveries before the wet season so materials can be placed and stabilized promptly.
Heavier clay soils, steep slopes, or loose fill often require thicker base layers and more compaction compared with stable, rocky ground; flatter, well-draining areas can get by with thinner layers. Use geotextile fabric, increase base depth, or plan for additional compaction cycles in challenging areas to improve longevity for driveways, paths, and pads.
Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons and pricing depends on material type, distance from local suppliers, and truck routing; rural deliveries can include additional fees for long hauls or lot conditions. The best way to know exact cost is to enter your zip code and get a quote, where you'll see transparent pricing and any delivery surcharges.
Confirm your delivery date, clear the drop area of vehicles and obstacles, mark the intended drop spot, and let drivers know about gates or access notes in advance. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion if requested at checkout, but placement is subject to safety and truck access; inspect the load on arrival and contact customer service promptly if there are any issues.
