Local Insights
Ninety Six (population 5,890) sits within a growing regional economy—part of a metro area of 2.6+ million—where a steady 2.10% annual growth rate translates into ongoing demand for housing, driveways, landscape upgrades, and small commercial projects. That steady growth means more projects with predictable timelines rather than boom-and-bust swings, so homeowners can expect consistent availability needs for bulk materials. The local climate—hardiness zone 8b with about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall—creates a mix of dry spells and moderate rain events. Those conditions favor materials that provide reliable drainage, resist sun-driven breakdown, and stabilize surfaces under repeated use. For practical projects around town, homeowners are looking for readily sourced aggregates, topsoil blends, mulches, and sands that perform well year-round and are easy to order in the quantities a typical yard or driveway requires.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Choose materials based on traffic, drainage, and finish: a stable base layer with a durable surface is key. For many homeowners in Ninety Six, mixes of gravel, sand, dirt, stone offer a good balance of stability and drainage when properly installed and compacted. Consider local soil, slope, and whether you want a low-maintenance or decorative surface before picking a product.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth (in inches) to calculate cubic yards, then convert to tons using an online calculator or our material calculator. Allow for compaction and waste (usually 5-10%), and remember minimum orders start around 3 tons with Hello Gravel, so round up or combine materials as needed.
Delivery cost depends on distance from the supplier, total tons ordered, material type, and delivery speed. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing based on your zip code, and many areas qualify for free delivery; select next-day delivery before noon CST for an extra fee if you need faster service.
Long-term performance is more about proper layering, compaction, and drainage than a single product. In West South Carolina conditions, materials that allow water to drain and that are placed over a stable base usually resist rutting and settling better; always factor in regional sourcing and local climate when choosing materials.
Spring through early fall is generally best for installation because the ground is easier to work and dries faster after rain. Avoid scheduling during heavy rainy periods or when the ground is saturated; book ahead for busy seasons to secure preferred delivery dates.
Most local suppliers and haulers in our network deliver to rural areas, but access issues like narrow roads, steep driveways, or low overhead can affect whether a dump truck can safely deliver. Enter your zip code at checkout and note site access in Order Notes so the team can confirm availability and any extra charges.
Match material choice and installation method to site conditions: free-draining mixes are better for slopes and erosion control, while compactable blends work well for stable walking or driving surfaces. Incorporate proper grading, gutters, or simple swales to direct water, and consult with a contractor for steep or heavily eroding sites.
Permit requirements vary by project size and location; minor landscaping often needs no permit but new driveways, curb cuts, or changes to drainage can require town or county approval. Check with Ninety Six town offices and any homeowners association before starting work to avoid delays.
Some suppliers and local contractors offer turnkey installation packages that include delivery, grading, and compaction, while Hello Gravel focuses on supply and delivery coordination. If you need installation, ask for contractor referrals or request installation details when ordering so you understand which services are included and what additional fees may apply.
Clear a safe drop area, remove low-hanging branches or obstacles, and mark property lines or preferred dump locations in advance. Make sure the ground can support a loaded tri-axle dump truck, request tailgate spreading at checkout if desired (driver will assess on arrival), and contact our team if you have special access needs.
