Local Insights
Fairview Village is a small community with a city population of 111 located within a broader metro area of 2.6+ million. A 1.80% annual growth rate points to steady demand for housing upgrades, landscaping, and smaller-scale infrastructure projects as more residents and businesses invest locally. With 228 sunny days per year and 34.32 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, the climate supports year-round outdoor work but also calls for materials that balance drainage and moisture retention. For homeowners that means selecting bulk supplies that create stable bases, manage runoff, support plant health, and reduce the need for frequent rework—everything from base soils and graded aggregates to topsoil and mulches plays a role in reliable results across seasons.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Homeowners typically order a mix of gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, pathways, base layers, and landscaping. These materials come in a range of sizes and textures, so choose based on the project: finer materials for leveling and drainage layers, and larger stone for base and decorative surfaces. Consider durability, drainage needs, and appearance when choosing a material.
Freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and heavy rain in West Pennsylvania can cause settling, frost heave, and erosion if materials and installation methods are not chosen correctly. Select materials and installation practices that promote drainage and compaction, and allow for seasonal movement. Expect some natural shifting over time and plan for periodic maintenance.
Hello Gravel typically requires a minimum order of 3 tons and offers standard delivery in 2+ business days in many areas, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Delivery fees vary by zip code and supplier distance; some areas offer free delivery. Exact timing and fees are shown at checkout, so check your zip code for the most accurate price.
Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and contracted haulers who deliver via dump trucks (typically tri-axle). Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; request this service at checkout but understand it is not guaranteed. For full installation or heavy spreading, consider hiring a local contractor or landscaper.
Spring through early fall is the busiest and most convenient season for landscaping and driveway projects because of warmer, drier weather. Winter deliveries are possible but can be delayed by snow and frozen ground, and some materials are harder to spread in cold conditions. To avoid peak-season delays, schedule ahead—especially for large jobs in spring.
Permit requirements vary by municipality, lot size, and the scope of work. Smaller landscaping projects often do not require permits, but driveways, large retaining walls, and drainage changes may. Check with the Fairview Village borough or township building department and any homeowners association before starting work.
A simple rule of thumb: one cubic yard covers about 100 to 110 square feet at a 3-inch depth. Because material weight varies, one cubic yard typically weighs about 1.2 to 1.6 tons depending on the material and moisture. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact the team with your project dimensions to get a tailored estimate.
Clay soils, slopes, and poor drainage common in parts of West Pennsylvania can demand different approaches, such as added base material, geotextile fabric, or improved drainage features. On slopes, heavier or angular materials and proper compaction help reduce movement. Evaluate the site conditions before ordering so you get the right type and quantity of material.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible—changes are easiest to make before the order is dispatched. If you have delivery issues or concerns about the material, reach out to customer service and they will work to resolve the problem according to our policies. Keep photos and delivery details handy to speed up resolution.
Match the material to the function: stable, angular mixes and a compacted base for driveways; good drainage mixes for paths and areas with runoff; and softer, finer materials for leveling and top layers. Consider appearance, maintenance, and local climate when deciding. Use the aggregate quiz or contact Hello Gravel for guidance if you are unsure.
