Local Insights
Broad Top City, Pennsylvania is a small community of 1,446 residents experiencing steady, modest growth at about 0.69% annually. That level of growth typically supports consistent demand for home renovation, infill projects, and incremental new construction rather than a rapid building boom. With 228 sunny days a year and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall in a temperate hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners here need materials that balance drainage performance with long-term durability. In practice that means choosing aggregates and soils that shed water where runoff is an issue, stable base materials for driveways and walkways, and well-graded mixes for patios and garden beds. Regional sourcing also matters: locally supplied materials will reflect the area's geology, so picking the right gradation and texture helps avoid surprises on color, drainage, and compaction. Broad Top City’s climate and soil conditions create a clear link between local weather patterns and material performance. Moderate rainfall can increase settling and erosion risk on sloped sites, while plentiful sunny days extend the workable season but can accelerate drying and settling of loose fills. For homeowners, that means prioritizing materials that compact reliably, resist washout, and support intended plantings or loads over time. Hello Gravel helps by connecting you with local suppliers who know these regional conditions, offering material calculators and delivery scheduling so you can match product choices and quantities to Broad Top City’s specific climate and project needs.

Hello Gravel found me while I was looking for dirt to fill a hole that opened up in my back yard. I originally searched on DirtMatch and when I spoke with Chuck I was originally quoted for 1 ton of dirt. After showing pictures it turned out I needed less than half of that. Chuck talked me through the process of picking the right soil, how to fill the hole, and where to get what I needed from the Lowes local to me. Uploaded pictures of how we found it, after we dug out all the overhang and cleaned it out, and after we filled it in. I saved $400 by talking with Chuck and it only took like 3 hours. I wasn't even an official customer and Chuck took the time to help me with the hole in my yard. And on a weekend no less!!! What I'm saying is if you're looking for honest, kind, caring people to help you with your job. From my experience, this is the place.

Start by identifying the job: drainage, base, decorative, or topsoil. Consider performance needs (drainage and compaction), appearance, and maintenance when comparing gravel, sand, dirt, stone. Regional sourcing means color and texture can vary in the Pennsylvania Region, so order a small sample or contact our team for help using the aggregate quiz and material calculator. If you are unsure, describe the project to our sales team for a recommendation.
Freeze/thaw cycles can cause frost heave and shifting if a material does not drain or compact well, so choose mixes that shed water and compact tightly for driveways and paths. Heavy rainfall increases erosion and can wash fines into drains, so prioritize materials and grading that promote runoff and consider geotextile underlayment for stability. Schedule installations in drier months when possible and plan for edge restraints and proper slope to reduce maintenance.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Seasonal demand and weather can affect availability: spring and summer often have higher demand, while winter can limit delivery access or certain material production. We recommend ordering early for large projects and checking product availability for your zip code.
Most deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks and Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons. Many areas offer free delivery, but fees, flat charges, or minimums can vary by supplier and distance; check your zip code for exact pricing and zones. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; request it at checkout but note there are no guarantees.
Clear a drop zone free of vehicles, low branches, and obstacles and mark the preferred spot so the driver can see it on arrival. Make sure access roads and driveways can handle a heavy truck, protect lawns if needed with plywood, and move items like potted plants or furniture out of the way. If your delivery will block a public road or require parking exceptions, check local rules ahead of time.
Possibly. Local townships or county roads may have seasonal weight limits, bridge restrictions, or rules for large truck access, and HOAs can have their own delivery guidelines. Contact your local municipality or HOA before ordering if you suspect restrictions, and tell us at checkout about special access so we can coordinate with the hauler.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth to calculate cubic yards, then use our material calculator to convert to tons for ordering since weights vary by material. Typical examples: a single-car driveway (12' x 20' at 3-4" depth) is about 1.5-3 cubic yards, while a 10' x 10' patio at 2" depth is roughly 0.6 cubic yards; always round up for compaction and waste. Contact our team with your dimensions and project type for a quick estimate.
Prices vary by supplier, material type, delivery distance, and season, so current per-ton or per-yard rates are best found by getting a quote for your zip code. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing on our site once you enter your delivery zip and product choice, and our team can provide estimates for large or repeat projects. Keep in mind that special requests, next-day delivery, or difficult access can add fees.
For small, simple tasks like topdressing a garden or resurfacing a short path, many homeowners can handle DIY work with rental tools and our guidance. Hire a contractor for larger driveways, significant grading, retaining walls, or projects in steep or wet areas where compaction, drainage, and permits matter. If in doubt, get a contractor estimate and compare it to DIY time and rental costs; our team can help match you with local haulers and suppliers.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; request this service at checkout and be prepared for the driver to assess safety and access on arrival. For special placement, driveway protection, or offload assistance, note these requests in Order Notes and confirm with customer service before dispatch. We cannot guarantee spreading or special handling, so plan for a backup such as renting equipment or hiring a local contractor if precise spreading is required.
