Local Insights
Sperry has a city population of 5,160 and is part of a broader region with a metro area population of 2.3+ million. With a growth rate of 0.40% annually, development in and around Sperry is steady and measured rather than explosive — meaning demand for materials tends to be consistent, predictable, and focused on homeowner projects, infill development, and incremental infrastructure work. The local climate — 228 sunny days per year, an annual rainfall of 33.50 inches, and hardiness zone 8b — favors durable, low-maintenance landscapes and construction methods that manage both sun exposure and episodic rain. For homeowners this translates to steady need for a range of bulk materials (gravel, sand, dirt, stone, mulch, topsoil) for driveways, drainage, patios, erosion control, and water-wise plant beds. Quality bulk materials and correct grading matter here because they affect drainage, longevity, and how well plantings and structures handle the local sun-and-rain cycle.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with the project type (driveway, patio base, garden beds, grading) and how the area will be used. Consider drainage, load-bearing needs, and the look you want; regional sourcing means gravel, sand, dirt, stone will vary in texture and color near Sperry. Use our material calculator and aggregate quiz or contact our team for a recommendation based on your specific site and budget.
Measure the area (length x width) and choose a target depth, then divide area x depth (in feet) by 27 to get cubic yards. Convert cubic yards to tons using a rough density range (about 1.2–1.7 tons per cubic yard depending on the material) and add 10% for waste and compaction. Our online calculator will do this automatically for you.
That depends on the material density: heavier materials commonly used around Sperry will require more bags. As a rule of thumb, expect roughly 30–60 fifty-pound bags per cubic yard (topsoil toward the lower end, heavier aggregates toward the higher end). Use the calculator or ask our team for a precise estimate for your chosen material.
Coverage depends on depth and material density; a useful way to estimate is to convert tons to cubic yards using the material's weight per cubic yard (about 1.2–1.7 tons/yd3) and then divide by area and depth. Roughly speaking, one ton can cover about 80–120 square feet at 1 inch depth for many common aggregates, but this changes with material type and compaction. Reach out if you want us to calculate coverage for your exact project.
'Gem dirt' is a local marketing term for screened, higher-quality topsoil that is free of large rocks and debris and often blended with organic matter for planting. Composition and color vary by local geology, so material from Sperry or nearby Tulsa-area suppliers may look different than photos. Ask for a description or sample photo in Order Notes to make sure it matches your needs.
Spring and early fall are generally the best times to add topsoil, seed, or build landscape features because temperatures and moisture are favorable for plant establishment. Avoid working in frozen ground, extreme heat, or during heavy rainfall when delivery and compaction become difficult. Plan ahead during peak seasons, since availability and lead times can increase.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Many orders qualify for free delivery depending on supplier and location, but final cost depends on distance, load size, and any special requirements. Enter your zip code on our site for an exact quote and delivery options for Sperry (74073 and surrounding zips).
Most deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks, which typically carry about 10–12 tons, but actual capacity varies by truck and material. Smaller or larger trucks may be used depending on local supplier equipment and job access. Your order confirmation will include the expected truck type and our driver or carrier will confirm on the day of delivery.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout, and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely upon arrival. There is no guarantee spreading will be provided, so plan to have equipment or help ready if you need precise spreading. Mark the drop zone clearly and remove obstacles to help the process.
Think about intended use (vehicle traffic versus foot traffic), drainage and slope, required base thickness, and whether compaction or geotextile fabrics are needed. Local freeze/thaw cycles and rainfall patterns in the Sperry area affect material choice and installation depth, so choose materials and layers accordingly. Use our product descriptions and contact our team for typical layer specs for common projects.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible; changes are easiest before the order is dispatched and we will do our best to accommodate requests. If there is an issue with a delivery, provide photos and details and our team will work with the supplier and carrier to resolve it; review our refund and claims policy for specific procedures.
