Local Insights
Howe is a small but steady community of about 2,080 residents, where measured growth at 0.40% annually translates into gradual, predictable demand for home improvement and light construction projects. That steady pace favors incremental upgrades over boom-style building, so homeowners and local contractors often prioritize durable, low-maintenance solutions that add long-term value. With 228 sunny days and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, materials must balance sun exposure and periodic wet weather: think UV-resistant surfaces, reliable drainage layers, and aggregates that lock together to resist erosion. For typical yard, driveway, and foundation work, that means selecting appropriately graded gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and stone that suit both aesthetic and performance needs while accounting for local delivery logistics and staging constraints. Howe’s climate and seasonal patterns create two practical needs for material selection: stability under sun-driven drying and resilience during rain events. Repeated wet-dry cycles increase the importance of proper compaction, well-graded bases, and erosion control measures, while extended sunny periods call for materials that resist discoloration and breakdown. These local realities mean homeowners should prioritize materials matched to local conditions and sourced regionally. Hello Gravel helps by connecting residents to nearby suppliers, offering calculators and guidance to size orders correctly, and coordinating delivery so materials arrive when projects are ready to begin.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Delivery cost depends on the material type, quantity ordered, and distance from the local supplier. We require a minimum order of 3 tons; typical deliveries are priced per ton or per cubic yard plus any delivery fee for long hauls. Use our online quote with zip code 74940 or contact our team for an exact estimate and available delivery dates.
Most local deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks that commonly carry about 8 to 14 cubic yards, or roughly 10 to 16 tons, depending on the material's density. The exact capacity depends on the truck and the product, and we confirm vehicle size when you place your order.
The number of 50-pound bags per cubic yard varies by material density; expect roughly 30 to 60 bags per cubic yard for many landscape and aggregate products. Heavier materials (denser stone or gravel) are toward the high end, while lighter materials (mulch or loose soils) are toward the low end.
Measure the area in square feet and decide the depth in inches, then use this formula: cubic yards = (square feet x depth in inches) / 324. Always round up to account for compaction and waste, and use our material calculator or contact our team if you want help converting between cubic yards and tons for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates.
Fines and smaller-sized aggregates are commonly used for bedding under pavers, leveling, joints, and some drainage or compaction applications. They work well where a stable, compact surface or a smooth finish is needed, but the best choice depends on your project (paths, bases, or finished surfaces).
Often you can add fresh material over an existing layer, but preparation matters: remove weeds, thin or rake the old layer, and check for poor drainage or contamination first. For structural projects like driveways or base replacements, removing the old material and installing a proper base is usually recommended.
Because we source regionally, color, texture, and size can vary based on local geology, so materials may not match photos exactly. You can add color or texture preferences in the Order Notes, and our team can advise on local options for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates.
Drivers typically use a dump truck and will assess the safest place to offload on site; you should clear the intended drop zone of vehicles, low branches, and other obstacles. Please note tailgate spreading is available at the driver’s discretion and verify any street permit or weight-limit rules for your driveway or neighborhood before delivery.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days from order processing, and next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. If you need to change or cancel, contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easiest before a truck is dispatched but are not guaranteed after processing.
Some drivers can perform limited tailgate spreading if requested at checkout, but this is done at their discretion and depends on site conditions and safety. Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading services, so plan on offloading only unless the driver confirms they can help on arrival.
Contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly with your order number and photos of the issue so we can investigate and work toward a satisfactory resolution. We’ll coordinate with the local supplier and hauler to address shortages, incorrect materials, or delivery problems in line with our policies.
