Local Insights
Versailles has a city population of 5,070 and sits within a growing regional market. A 2.33% annual growth rate signals steady construction and landscaping demand—enough to support ongoing home improvements, new yards, and small-scale infill projects without the boom-town volatility that complicates sourcing. In Versailles's hardiness zone 8b, with 228 sunny days per year and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, homeowners need materials that balance sun exposure and periodic wet weather. That mix favors permeable aggregates for drainage, stable base materials for driveways and patios, well-amended soils for planting beds, and UV-resistant mulches and topcoats. As yards expand and older properties are updated, reliable bulk supplies of gravel, dirt, sand, mulch, and stone become practical necessities—quality, regional sourcing matters because local geology affects texture, color, and performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Home projects in the Versailles area commonly use gravel, sand, dirt, stone, and mulch for driveways, patios, garden beds, drainage and erosion control. Availability and exact appearance vary by local supplier, so regional sourcing in West Ohio often determines color and texture. Tell us your project and we can recommend the best options.
Choose materials based on function first: drainage and load-bearing needs, appearance second, and maintenance last. For example, use materials that compact for driveways, porous options for drainage, and lighter textures for garden beds. If you need help, use our material quiz or contact our team for guidance tailored to Versailles conditions.
As a general rule, 1 cubic yard of most aggregates equals about 1.2 to 1.6 tons, but that varies by material. A good estimate is that 1 ton will cover roughly 80–150 sq ft at 1–2 inches of depth, and much less at deeper depths; larger projects should be calculated in cubic yards and rounded up. Use our online calculator or contact us with your project dimensions for a quick estimate; remember our minimum order is 3 tons.
Freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and heavy spring rains in the Versailles area can affect compaction and settling and may make delivery or spreading difficult when the ground is frozen or saturated. For best results, schedule major grading or finishing work in late spring through early fall when soils are drier and compaction is easier. If you must work in wet or cold seasons, plan for extra compaction, drainage measures, and possible regrading later.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. We deliver via local contracted dump-truck fleets, require a minimum order of 3 tons, and let you choose a delivery date at checkout. Drivers may be able to do tailgate spreading at their discretion if you request it, but this is not guaranteed.
Yes. Narrow roads, low-hanging wires, soft or steep driveways, weight-restricted bridges and local road rules can limit where trucks can safely dump. Add delivery notes, photos, or a contact phone number at checkout so the driver and dispatcher can plan a safe drop location. If access is limited, smaller trucks or offloading strategies may be required and could affect price or timing.
Local rules and HOAs often have requirements about driveway surfacing, curb cuts, drainage, and landscaping materials. Check with Versailles city offices, Darke County planning, and your HOA before ordering to confirm any permits or material restrictions. Hello Gravel can help with material selection but cannot waive local permitting requirements.
Lead times depend on supplier inventory and truck availability; many contractor-sized orders in West Ohio can be scheduled within a few business days, while very large or specialty requests may require 3–7 business days. For ongoing projects, coordinate with our team early to reserve materials and trucks; we will provide an estimated delivery window when you place the order.
Drivers may be able to place material in a preferred location or perform tailgate spreading at their discretion if conditions and access allow. Request placement details and spreading at checkout and the driver will assess safety and feasibility on arrival. We do not guarantee spreading or exact placement due to liability and equipment limits.
For erosion control and low maintenance, consider combinations of properly sized aggregates with good drainage, geotextile fabric on slopes, and vegetation or edging to hold material in place. Materials that allow water to infiltrate reduce runoff, and selecting denser or angular aggregates can reduce migration on slopes. Local soil type and slope angle matter, so ask us for recommendations based on your site conditions.
Because we source materials regionally, color, grain size and texture can vary across West Ohio; the same named material may look different in Versailles than in another region. These natural variations can affect appearance and, in some cases, compaction or drainage behavior. You can add color or texture preferences in Order Notes, and our team can suggest alternatives if a specific look or performance is required.
Contact our team as soon as possible; changes are easier to accommodate before an order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to modify shipments, but feasibility depends on supplier and trucking schedules. See our order policies for details and note that last-minute changes may affect pricing or delivery timing.
